NDC drops road tilt to Tribunes

Slow start dooms NDC in road loss

Box Score
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A quick start set the tone for the Monroe Community College Tribunes on Sunday, as they defeated the Notre Dame Falcons, 19-9. (Box)

For the Falcons (3-5) the contest was their first in over two weeks, ending their longest layoff of the season, while for the Tribunes (3-0) the victory keeps them unbeaten on the season. The loss was also NDC's first on the road in over a month.

From the get go, the Tribunes had control.  They scored their first goal less than three minutes into the contest, but Notre Dame answered rather quickly, on Madalyn Dewling's first of four goals on the day to even things up at the 24:56-mark.

However, the Tribunes controlled the remainder of the opening half, and used an 8-0 run over the next 14 minutes of the contest to take a 9-1 advantage.  Notre Dame was not able to get on the board again until Kristen Hull scored a pair of goals inside of the final three minutes of the half, as NDC went into the break, trailing, 9-3.

Defensively, the Tribunes put the clamps on NDC, as the Falcons were limited to just six shots in the opening half, and committed 14 turnovers as well.

The second half saw NDC provide a little more resistance at the beginning, as the Falcons scored three out of the first five goals of the second period over the first 10 minutes to pull within five (11-6), but that was as close as they would get the rest of the way.

The Tribunes negated any chance of an NDC comeback as they scored five out of the following six goals to take a commanding, 16-7 advantage, with just under 12 minutes left in the contest.

Dewling and Hull led the way for Notre Dame offensively, with four goals each, and Kelly Matthewman scored a goal as well.  Dewling assisted on a pair of goals as well, while NDC goalie Lauren Ragsdale came away with nine saves on the day.

The Falcons are in action again on Tuesday, April 8, when they play host to Urbana at Mueller Field.  The contest is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
