Falcons conquer Cavaliers

NDC scores another lopsided road victory

Box Score
NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons took care of business on the road on Tuesday evening, in an 18-4 victory over the Walsh Cavaliers.

For the Falcons (5-6) the victory snapped a two-game losing streak on the road and was their third in their last five games, while for the Cavaliers (5-5) the loss was their second in a row, and just their second in five games at home.

Notre Dame put forth a strong defensive effort, especially in the second half to limit Walsh's opportunities to score.  On the night, the Falcons limited Walsh to just 12 shots, and held them to just five in the second half.

The Falcons scored the first three goals of the contest, as Kristen Hull, Kelly Matthewman and Brooke Czarnecki found the back of the net in the first seven minutes of action to give Notre Dame the early advantage.

Walsh was able to answer NDC's early 3-0 run by scoring a pair of goals over the next four minutes of action, closing the gap to one (3-2) before NDC pulled away.  Notre Dame scored the next three goals over a five minute stretch to take a 6-2 lead, which triggered a 6-1 run over the final 16 minutes of the half to give NDC a commanding 9-3 advantage at the break.

Hull, Matthewman and Demi Bennett scored early on in the second period, which was dominated by Notre Dame, as they outscored Walsh, 9-1.  The Notre Dame lead was never in question, as they controlled the tempo of the contest, and never gave the Cavaliers a chance to get back into it.

The Falcons forced 35 Walsh turnovers, and made it very difficult to enter the NDC offensive zone, as the Cavaliers converted on just 7-of-18 clearing opportunities on the night.

Offensively, Hull and Matthewman led the charge for NDC with four goals each on a night where eight Falcons scored at least once, and five Falcons scored multiple times. Czarnecki scored a trio of goals while Allison Merten, Madalyn Dewling each scored twice.  Hull added four assists on the evening, and Bennett led the charge for Notre Dame defensively, coming away with eight ground balls, and forced three turnovers.

The Falcons are in action again on Thursday, April 17, when they host their final home game of the season at Mueller Field against Wheeling Jesuit.  The contest is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
