LYNDHURST, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons scored nine times in the first eight minutes of Sunday afternoon's contest against Walsh, as they defeated the Cavaliers convincingly, 20-1.
The victory for Notre Dame (6-2, 2-1 GLIAC) marked the second game in a row that the scored 20 goals or more, and was their fourth in their last five games, while the loss for the Cavaliers (1-3, 1-2) was their second in a row.
Notre Dame took control right away, scoring their first goal less than a minute into the contest when
Jill Dixon found the back of the net for the first of her three goals in the opening half.
The entire first half belonged to Notre Dame, as they dominated every single category. Eight different Falcons scored goals in the first half, and they outshot the Cavaliers, 25-1. Draw control was another huge factor in NDC's dominant first half, as they won all but three of the 17 first half draws.
Madalyn Dewling had four of Notre Dame's 16 goals in the opening half, while Dixon and
Kristen Hull both came away with multiple goals as well in the first half. NDC was crisp on offense, moving the ball well, as 12 of the 16 goals were assisted.
Up big at the start of the second half, Notre Dame was able to maintain their lead by taking care of the ball, and not committing many turnovers. The Falcons did not allow Walsh many opportunities to score in the second half. NDC outscored the Cavaliers, 4-1 in the second stanza to cap the big victory.
The Falcons played the contest in honor of Jen Hrobuchak, a three year member of the program (2009-11) who died in a car accident last summer.
Five Falcons scored multiple goals, with Dewling and Hull leading the way with four goals each. Hull also added a trio of assists. Dixon and
Allison Merten contributed three goals apiece, and Merten added three assists.
Elizabeth Anderson also scored twice.
The Falcons are in action again on Friday, April 12, as they head to Tiffin for a showdown with the Dragons. The contest is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
