LYNDHURST, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons used a big first half to catapult their way into the semi final round of the GLIAC tournament, in a convincing, 25-11 victory over Findlay on Tuesday night.
The victory for Notre Dame (10-4, 6-3 GLIAC) was their third in a row, and continued their season, as they'll advance to the semi-final round of the GLIAC tournament, while the loss for the Oilers (6-12, 4-5) eliminated them from the tournament, thus ending their season.
As they had done in their regular season finale two days earlier, Notre Dame set the tone right away, scoring five times in the game's first nine minutes.
Kristen Hull scored two of those goals while
Madalyn Dewling assisted on a pair of those five, and scored one herself.
Findlay ended the 5-0 run just inside the 20-minute mark, and scored two goals to get back within striking distance, before NDC ran off five consecutive goals for the second time in the contest.
Shannan Edwards kick started the 5-0 run with a pair of goals, as the Falcons took a commanding 10-2 lead, and never looked back.
The Oilers did hold a 14-10 edge in draw controls, but they turned it over 18 times in the opening half, and those extra opportunities eventually surrendered a number of goals to the Falcons, who went into the break with an 18-5 advantage.
The second half didn't offer much of a change for either side, as the Falcons were just as dominant in the final 30 minutes as they were in the first. The Falcons scored seven second half goals to set a season-high, with 25 on the night.
Notre Dame took eight out of 13 draw controls in the second half to maintain possession, and limit Findlay's chances to come back, and they forced 25 turnovers throughout the night.
Edwards and
Katherine Doraty paced the NDC offense with five goals each and they also added a pair of assists. Dewling stuffed the stat sheet as well with four goals, and four assists to go along with two draw controls while causing two turnovers. Hull scored four goals as well, had two assists and came away with eight draw controls. Seven Falcons scored multiple goals on the night.
The Falcons will hit the road for their next contest, as they face Grand Valley State (Mich.), the hosts, and the top seed in the GLIAC tournament. The contest will take place in Allendale, Mich., and the time of the contest has not been determined.
