Falcons fall to Lake Erie in conference opener

Box Score
LYNDHURST, Ohio -- A difficult start to Wednesday evening's contest cost the Falcons in their conference opener, as they fell to Lake Erie, 20-15.

The loss for Notre Dame (4-2, 0-1 GLIAC) snapped a brief, two game win streak, while the Storm (7-2, 1-0) extended their winning streak to four with the victory.

Lake Erie took control immediately.  The Storm scored the game's first three goals, and did so in the first seven minutes of the contest.  Notre Dame responded with back-to-back goals from Kristen Hull and Madalyn Dewling just inside the 15-minute mark to draw within one.

With their lead down to one, Lake Erie then turned it on, and went on an incredible, 7-0 run, over the next 10 minutes to take a commanding, 10-2 advantage.  The Storm went into the half with a 12-3 lead at the end of the half.

Despite the large halftime deficit, Notre Dame was able to rally in the second half and made things interesting.  They scored the first two goals of the half, and were paced by Dewling, who found the back of the net six times in the second stanza.

NDC was able to pull within five on several occasions, but could not get any closer than that, as the Storm did enough to hold off the Falcons and come away with the victory.

The Storm made the most of their opportunities, as they converted on 20 of their 25 shots, but had only two more shots (25-23) than NDC and turned it over six more times than the Falcons.

Six Falcons scored goals on the night, and they were led by Dewling who tallied seven, a season high on 12 shots.  Shannan Edwards scored three times, while Katherine Doraty found the back of the net twice.

The Falcons are in action again on Friday, April 5, when they begin conference play as they host Findlay.  The contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at Korb Field.
