PHILLIPI, W.Va. -- The Notre Dame Falcons cruised to a lopsided victory at Alderson Broaddus on Sunday evening, securing the fourth seed in the GLIAC tournament, in a 23-3 thumping of the Battlers.
The victory for Notre Dame (9-4, 5-3 GLIAC) was their fourth in their last five away from home, and clinched the fourth seed in the GLIAC tournament, while the loss for the Battlers (0-13, 0-8) ended their season on sour note, as they went winless in the 2013 campaign.
Notre Dame set the tone right away, scoring five times in the first five minutes of the contest.
Shannan Edwards had a big day for Notre Dame, and she was responsible for three of those five goals in the early goings.
NDC was relentless offensively, and found the back of the net a dozen times, before the Battlers scored their first goal at the 6:47-mark. Eight different Falcons scored in the opening half, as the Falcons took a comfortable, 15-1 advantage at halftime.
The opening half was a tough one for the Battlers, as their opportunities to score were few. As impressive as NDC's offense was, their defense was just as good, limiting the Battlers to just one shot in the opening half, while the Falcons forced 16 turnovers.
It didn't get much better for the Battlers in the final stanza, as the Falcons used a 10-1 advantage in draw control to maintain possession and limit ABC's chances. The shot differential was another big factor in the second half, with NDC firing off eight more shots (13-5) in the second stanza. The Falcons outscored the Battlers, 8-2, in the second half to cruise to the victory.
Notre Dame completely dominated the entire contest, winning every major category by a landslide. None were more noticeable than the shot differential, with the Falcons firing off 38 (44-6) more shots than the Battlers.
Six Falcons scored multiple goals in the contest, while nine found the back of the net at least once.
Madalyn Dewling led the way for the Falcons with five goals on the afternoon, while Edwards scored four times.

Jill Dixon and
Brooke Czarnecki added three goals each, and
Allison Merten scored twice. Merten also added three assists.
The Falcons will host their first ever post season contest on Tuesday, April 30. NDC will host Findlay in the first round of the GLIAC tournament, and the start time has yet to be determined.
