Falcons fall in home finale

Box Score
LYNDHURST, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons fell to Grand Valley State in their home finale on Sunday evening, as the Lakers used a big second half to beat the Falcons, 20-7.

The loss for Notre Dame (7-4, 3-3 GLIAC) was just their second at home this season, while the victory for the Lakers (9-5, 6-0) was their seventh in a row.

Notre Dame was able to hang with Grand Valley Stat for a half, before the Lakers turned it on the second stanza to pull away for a big road victory in conference play.

The Falcons jumped on the board first, as Katrina Johnson found the back of the net just three and a half minutes into the game.  The Lakers answered with two straight goals over the next three minutes, before Katherine Doraty scored at the 22:56-mark to tie the contest at 2-2.

GVSU then scored four consecutive goals, getting three of those from Allyson Fritts, who ended the first half with five goals.  The Lakers went into the break with a 10-5 advantage, even though the Falcons fired off five more shots (17) than GVSU in the opening stanza.

The second half belonged to Grand Valley.  It was the Laker defense that ultimately prevented the Falcons from getting back into the contest, as they weren't able to notch their first goal of the second stanza until Kristen Hull scored about 14 minutes into the half.  Hull's goal turned out to be the first of only two in the second half for NDC.

The Lakers fired off 12 (17-5) more shots than the Falcons in the final 30 minutes, and outscored NDC, 10-2 during the second half to help them pull away, and remain unbeaten in conference play.

Five different Falcons scored in the contest, including Hull and Doraty, both scoring a pair of goals on the afternoon. Hull came away with a trio of ground balls, and seven draw controls as well.  Johnson, Madalyn Dewling and Shannan Edwards also scored for NDC.

The Falcons are in action again on Friday, April 26, when they hit the road to take on Urbana.  The contest is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
