The win for the Falcons (2-4) snaps a three game losing streak, while the loss for the Dragons (1-5) gives them four in a row.
NDC and Tiffin went back and forth over the first 18 minutes of the opening half. The Falcons held a 2-1 edge after
Allison Merten's goal at the 14:56-mark, but the Dragons responded quickly, and ran off four consecutive goals to take the lead.
Tiffin's Alexis MacMillan capped the 4-0 run with a goal at the 9:37-mark, and while the Falcons were able to find the back of the net two more times before the end of the half on goals from Merten and
Kristen Hull, the Dragons went into the half with a 6-4 advantage.
Notre Dame had no problems firing off shots all evening long, as they outshot the Dragons, 52-21, but they unleashed the fury in the second half, where they ripped off 32 shots.
Hayley Hodyno's goal less than two minutes into the second stanza began a string of five consecutive NDC goals. The Falcons took the lead during that 5-0 run, and never looked back. Notre Dame outscored the Dragons, 8-1 over the first 20 minutes of the second half.
The Dragons would get as close as three (12-9) with 7:35 to go on Kalie Weinheimer's goal, but the NDC defense kept Tiffin off the board the rest of the way, while they added two more goals from Hull and
Madalyn Dewling to seal the deal.
Hull paced the Falcons yet again, adding six points to her season total. The sophomore from Okemos, Mich., had four goals and a pair of assists, with 10 shots on goal. Merten found the back of the net three times for the Falcons, while Dewling, and
Taylor Shifflet scored two goals each.
In just her second start in goal,
Amanda Matusik performed extremely well. A defender to start the year, Matusik has been asked to fill in between the pipes due to injuries, and against the Dragons, she faced 21 shots, while coming up with eight saves on the evening.
The Falcons will be in action again on Mon., March 26, when they head to Indiana (Pa.) for another road tilt. The contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
