Florida Southern tops NDC, 21-7

Falcons drop Florida finale to unbeaten foe

LAKELAND, Fla. --  Notre Dame closed out its three-game Florida trip with a 21-7 loss at Florida Southern on Saturday. (Box)

Florida Southern (6-0) dominated play, outshooting the Falcons, 37-14, in earning its sixth straight victory in this, the Moccasins first season of varsity competition.

With the loss Notre Dame (1-3) heads north having gone 1-2 over its trio of Florida games.  NDC downed St. Leo, 18-10, and then lost to Rollins (23-10) and Florida Southern.

Five Moccasin players found the back of the net two times or more in a game that marked NDC's third loss this season by a double-digit margin of defeat.

The two teams traded scores throughout much of the opening half.  The Falcons and Moccasins split the first six goals of the game, but then starting at the 17:01-mark, FSC went on a 4-0 run to take a 7-3 lead.  That run came to a halt at 9:19, when Kristen Hull scored her second goal of the game.

The high-octane Moccasins, however, volleyed with three straight goals to take a 10-4 lead by the 2:08-mark.  They would score twice more -- against Hull's third of the game -- in the final two minutes of play, and after 30 minutes, the home squad led, 12-5.  Florida Southern outshot Notre Dame, 24-10, in the first half.

Florida Southern dominated the early minutes of the second, taking a 16-5 lead by the 23-minute mark.  NDC didn't score until Hull assisted on an Allison Merten netfinder at 16:13.

FSC closed out the game out by scoring five more goals, notching its third 20-goal game of the season.  Megan Asper and Danielle LaDuca were the Moccasins' leading scorers in the game; they each scored four goals.

Kristen Hull finished with three goals and an assist to lead the Falcon attack.  She also had seven draw controls.  Demi Bennett led the NDC defensive corps with three caused turnovers; she also registered a pair of groundballs.  Midfielder Elizabeth Anderson had three groundballs and a goal, her first of the season.

NDC was a minus-eight in turnover margin; the Falcons had 24 turnovers in the game to FSC's 16.
