SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Notre Dame College has named faculty member Dr. John P. Galovic its new director of athletics. Effective immediately, he will be in charge of the College's 22 teams, 33 coaches and more than 700 student athletes.
A wise and seasoned leader, Dr. Galovic, who has chaired the College's education division for four years, brings a fresh perspective to the athletic director position at NDC. As a faculty member with significant experience in senior academic leadership supervising ADs, coaches and athletes, Dr. Galovic will stress the importance of student-athletes succeeding both on the field and in the classroom. He will report directly to both President Dr. Andrew P. Roth and Dean of Students Brian Emerson.
Dr. Galovic takes charge of the Falcon athletic program as it enters provisional status in the NCAA membership process. Being approved for a provisional year advances Falcon athletics one step closer to becoming a full-fledged NCAA Division II member in time for the 2012-13 academic year.
“John is a seasoned professional who will step right in and hit the ground running at this all-important time in the history of our athletic programs,” Dr. Roth said. “Organized, systematic and thoughtful, he will provide a solid foundation for moving our programs forward as we transition into NCAA DII. Combining the unique vision of an educator and administrator, John understands that our young men and women are students first and athletes second.”
Prior to joining Notre Dame College in 2005, Dr. Galovic served as associate superintendent for business and director of secondary education for the Willoughby-Eastlake City School District. In these positions, he directed all business and transportation functions of the school system, supervised all administrative and teaching staff, and oversaw all curricular and extra-curricular functions.
Dr. Galovic served as principal at the Willoughby-Eastlake Technical Center and then Eastlake North High School, before stepping down to pursue his Doctorate in Educational Administration at the University of Akron. During his career, he has managed a full complement of athletic programs at two high schools and three middle schools.
