Falcons win third in a row with 17-9 victory over Tiffin

LYNDHURST, Ohio -- Notre Dame won its third straight game, topping Tiffin 17-9 on Thursday night at Korb Field. (Box)

The Falcons (8-5) went on a run late in the opening half, and that surge carried over into the second half, as NDC won on a night when they outshot the visiting squad 44-22. Junior #Jen Hrobuchak# scored five goals for the Blue & White, who have now beaten Tiffin (7-7) twice this season.

Notre Dame outscored Tiffin 9-6 in the first half; the Falcons then dominated the second frame, 8-3. Eight different players scored for NDC, who have won six of their last seven. Over that same stretch, the Falcons have outscored foes 118-61.

Notre Dame controlled the game, outshooting the visiting Dragons 44 to 22, won 15 ground balls compaired to eight by the Dragons, and forced Tiffin into 11 turnovers.

#Rachel Torasco# collected five saves through 46 minutes before #Kesey Harvey# made two saves in 14 minutes of action to give the Falcons their third straight victory and their second over Tiffin in 2011. Madeline Kane made 15 saves earning the loss for Tiffin.

Thursday's game marked NDC's second-to-last of the season -- the Falcons are slated to host Monroe (N.Y.) on Tuesday, April 19, in their 2011 finale.

NOTES FROM THE NEST....

BUCKEYE BASHERS: Notre Dame is 12-0 against Ohio foes. Four of those victories came last season as part of what was a nine-game NDC winning streak from March 24-April 17. The Falcons are 17-1 in their last 18 games against opponents hailing from the Buckeye State. Their all-time results include 37 games against Ohio programs - NDC is 24-13 in those contests.

HOME SWEET HOME: The Falcons guaranteed at least a .500 record at Korb for the season with a win. Currently sitting at 3-2 this season, the Blue & White have struggled to protect Korb Field to the standard fans have grown accustomed to. The two losses came at the hands of NCAA-I Niagara (N.Y.) and NCAA-II Indiana University of Pennsylvania. In those two contests the Falcons surrendered 31 goals whereas only scoring 16. Their March 19 loss to Niagara marked the first home loss since April 20, 2007 when the Falcons suffered a 22-7 loss to Mercyhurst (Pa.). Coming into 2011 the Falcons had protected Korb Field winning 18 straight and 23 of their last 24 contests at home. All-time the program holds a 30-9 record (.769 percent) at Korb Field. The inaugural season of 2005 is the only season when the Falcons lost more than two home contests as they went 2-4 at home and 2-10 overall.
