#Jen Hrobuchak# scored six goals and added an assist, while #Madalyn Dewling# provided four goals to lead the NDC attack as the Falcons were without the services of their leading attacker, senior #Katie Christensen# who came down with the flu.
“When we played Tiffin last year we knew they had talent.” Stated Falcons bench boss #Torrey McGowan#. “Much respect for Coach Colleen Dixon, she has already done a lot for the Tiffin program in just seven games.”
Coming off of back-to-back wins for the first time in 2011, Notre Dame (5-4) scored first on Wednesday, taking a short lived 1-0 lead at the 28:29 mark when Hrobuchak converted on a Dragon turnover. On a four game winning streak, Tiffin (4-3) would respond knotting the score (1-1) within nine seconds.
After Tiffin grabbed a two goal lead (4-2), using an extra-man opportunity to perfection, it was Hrobuchak's spectacular effort that brought the Falcons within one (4-3), with 8:50 remaining and on the man disadvantage.
Hrobuchack's goal spurred the Blue & White to three straight goals as #Kristen Hull#, leveled the score before Hrobucchak put NDC in the lead 5-4 on a free position shot with 5:01 remaining.
The opening half would end with Notre Dame holding the slimmest of advantages over Tiffin, 5-4.
Again it would be #Jen Hrobuchak# as she opened the second half with her fourth goal of the game pushing the Falcons to a two goal lead (6-4) within the first 38 seconds.
Back-to-back goals by Tiffin would level the score at six a piece at the 27:24 mark. Then freshman #Madalyn Dewling# would go to work burring goals on either side of Taylor DeMaio's giving NDC a 7-6 lead.
After a Kelley Miller free position shot leveled the score, it was Dewling who gave the Falcons their lead back (8-7) with less than eight minutes gone in the second period.
After Kalie Weinheimer received a penalty giving NDC a man advantage, it would be Tiffin responding to their own plight with back-to-back goals by Alexandria Quast within twenty seconds of one another. Giving the Dragons a 9-8 lead despite the man disadvantage.
After trading goals #Amy Albanese# scored goals on either side of #Kristen Hull# and #Madalyn Dewling# giving NDC a 13-10 lead. That run spurred a Tiffin timeout. The timeout would keep the Blue & White from scoring for over five minutes before Hrobuchak would ripple the net with her sixth goal giving the visitors a 14-10 lead with under nine minutes to play.
Four consecutive goals by the Dragons would level the score at 14-14 with 4:01 remaining. Two minutes later, Dewling's fourth goal of the evening would put NDC in charge 15-14. #Rachel Tarasco# would come up with three straight saves robbing Quast on a free position shot to ensure Notre Dame the win, 15-14.
“It was great to see (Jen) Hrobuchak take on a leadership role today without Katie (Christensen).” Commented Coach McGowan. “She stepped up big for us tonight with goals, but she did even more as a leader. It is going to be fun to see her continue this development.”
“On the defensive side, Rachel (Tarasco) played well; she made a lot of big plays through the entire game. All I can say is, thank goodness for senior goalies.”
For the game, Notre Dame outshot Tiffin 39-30, led 26-22 in ground balls 21-13, but trailed 19-11 in draw controls to the Dragons.
#Jen Hrobuchak# led the Notre Dame attack with seven points (6 goals, 1 assist1) while #Madalyn Dewling# added four points (4 goals). #Amy Albanese# and #Kristen Hull# provided two points apiece (2 goals) while #Kelly Matthewman# (1 goal) and #Jill Dixon# (1 assist) added one each.
Alexandria Quast led Tiffin with five goals and an assist, Elyse Braun and Talor DeMaio added three goals each for the home Dragons.
#Rachel Tarasco# collected a season high 11 saves in the win for the Falcons. The senior netminder from Mentor, Ohio moves above .500 for the season with a 4-3 mark. Madeline Kane recorded 11 saves in the loss for Tiffin.
