NDC bounces back in home win over Urbana

Dewling tallies five goals as Falcons earn first home win of the season

LYNDHURST, Ohio -- Notre Dame bounced back from its first home loss in nearly four years, as the Falcons toped the upstart Blue Knights of Urbana University on Tuesday evening. (box)

#Madalyn Dewling# scored five goals to lead the NDC charge on a night when the home squad outshot their first-year counterparts, 37-8. The Falcons' 18 goals mark the most they've scored in a game since Feb. 26.

Urbana (0-7) scored first on Tuesday, taking a short lived 1-0 lead at the 24:39 mark. Notre Dame (3-4) would respond scoring 11 unanswered goals to go into halftime up, 11-1.

After the Blue Knights opened the scoring at the 24:39 mark, Dewling responded 27 seconds later to draw the game level. Her third goal of the season opened a barrage of NDC goals through the opening 30 minutes. Freshman #Kristen Hull# capped the opening half with three straight goals to close the half with a 10 goal lead (11-1).

Dewling opened the second half with back-to-back goals, followed by fellow freshman, #Kelly Matthewman# to give Notre Dame a 14-1 lead. Urbana would respond at the 19:55 mark when Emily Boeger netted her first of two goals on the night.

Fenwick, Ontario, native #Jill Dixon# netted her third goal of game, followed by #Katie Christensen# put the Falcons up 16-2 with 10:38 remaining.

Boeger then netted her second goal of the game and ninth of the season to draw one back for UU. Christensen would respond with a spectacular feed from Hull for the Sandy, Utah, native's 25th goal of the season. Her goal moved her past Gena McPherson for fourth in program history for career points.

Hull would dish out her fourth assist of the evening, provide fellow freshman #Shannan Edwards#' first collegiate goal to cap the Falcons largest margin of victory in 2011, 18-3.

For the game, Notre Dame outshot Urbana 38-7, led in ground balls 21-13, and held a commanding edge 19-2 in draw controls over the Blue Knights.

#Kristen Hull# led the Notre Dame attack with seven points (3 goals, 4 assists) while #Madalyn Dewling# added five points (4 goals, 1 assist). #Jill Dixon# and #Kelly Matthewman# provided four points apiece (3 goals, 1 assist). #Katie Christensen# chipped in with three points (2 goals, 1 assist), #Amy Albanese# added two points (1 goal, 1 assist), and #Shannon Edwards# (1 goal), and #Elizabeth Anderson# (1 assist) rounded out the Falcons attack.

Emily Boerger led Urbana with two goals, while Brittany Mazzu added one goal for the visiting Blue Knights. 

#Rachel Tarasco# collected two saves earning the win for the Falcons, while freshman #Kelsey Harvey# made one save in relief. Allyson LeMasters made 14 saves for Urbana while surrendering 17 goals before Chillicothe, Ohio native Darby Mitchell finished the final seven plus minutes allowing just one goal for the Blue Knights. 

Notre Dame returns to action on Saturday, March 26, when the Falcons host West Virginia Wesleyan. Opening draw is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Korb Field.



NOTES FROM THE NEST…

SHE SHOOTS, SHE SCORES:
Sandy, Utah, native #Katie Christensen# scored 2 goals and added an assist, moving her into fourth place on the Falcons Individual Career Points on Tuesday evening, surpassing Gena McPherson. The 5-foot-5 midfielder has amassed 118 points (97g, 21a) in her three year career.

BUCKEYE BASHERS: Notre Dame is 8-0 against Ohio foes. Four of those victories came last season as part of what was a nine-game NDC winning streak from March 24-April 17. The Falcons are 13-1 in their last 14 games against opponents hailing from the Buckeye State. Their all-time results include 33 games against Ohio programs - NDC is 20-13 in those contests.

FIRSTS: Tuesday evening's contest marked the first meeting between the two programs. Urbana entered their inaugural 2011 season losing their first seven games including their 18-3 decision to NDC. The Falcons instituted Lacrosse in 2005, that season the Blue & White went 0-6 before defeating Medaille (N.Y.) 13-4 at Korb Field. Overall the Falcons went 2-10 in their opening year.
