DETROIT -- Notre Dame traveled to Detroit Wednesday to take on the NCAA Division I Titans of the University of Detroit Mercy. The host UDM squad defeated NDC, 16-10.
Detroit Mercy (4-5) outscored the Falcons, 9-3, in the first, breaking open a 5-3 game with four straight goals to end the opening period. Notre Dame (2-3) had its own spurt, scoring five straight late in the second half, but it wasn't enough to avoid a second straight loss.
Senior #Jenn Morse# had three goals to lead the NDC attack. Fellow Ontario native Emily Boissonneault paced the Titans with a game-high six scores.
Notre Dame outshot UDM, 30-29, but Titan netminder Brett Yenger had 16 saves for Detroit Mercy. The Falcons also won the turnover battle and topped the Titans in both draw controls and ground balls.
“We played well at times,” said Head Coach Torrey McGowan. “On the defensive end, I thought the girls really got after it.”
NDC forced 32 turnovers, took 15 of 28 draw controls and had a season-high 35 ground balls in the contest at Titan Field.
With her trio of goals in the St. Patrick's Day game in Detroit, Jenn Morse now has a team-high 15 goals on the season. That eclipses the 12 goals she scored last season. #Amy Albanese# had two goals in the loss, as did #Katie Christensen#.
Notre Dame's next game is scheduled for Saturday, March 20, when the Falcons travel to Rochester, N.Y., to take on Monroe.

GROUND CONTROL: Notre Dame bested Detroit Mercy on the ground Wednesday afternoon, picking up 35 groundballs to the Titans' 29. Four Falcon players -- #Sarah Hutchison#, #Audi King#, #Aleisha Matsuura# and #Emily Moore# -- each garnered five ground balls in the game, and NDC's 35 for the contest represents a new season-high. … Moore now has a team-leading 18 ground balls on the season.
HUTCH HINDRANCE: The Falcons also had a season high in caused turnovers in the game against UDM. NDC forced 21 miscues. Hutchison had six caused turnovers to lead the NDC backfield.
