NDC downs Kenyon

NDC fights off second-half comeback for sixth straight

GAMBIER, Ohio. – Despite a second half comeback, Notre Dame held off Kenyon, 13-8, to earn their tenth win of the season on Saturday. The Falcons improve to 10-3, marking their sixth consecutive victory, their longest streak this season. With the win, NDC improves to 4-1, all-time against the Ladies (11-4). (Box)

The match-up in Gambier, Ohio, on Saturday afternoon was one of two teams on a roll. The Falcons and Ladies came into the game with a combined record of 20-6 (.769), with NDC having won five straight and Kenyon four.

NDC was the team that kept the streak rolling, building a 9-1 lead into halftime. Kenyon rallied in the second half, outscoring Notre Dame, 7-4, but the Blue & White were able to use the first half barrage to hold off the Ladies.

The Falcons got goals from nine different Falcons and scoring was led by freshman #Katie Christensen# who finished with three goals and an assist. Senior attacker #Molly Merrill# closed the day with three points on two scores and a helper.

Kenyon was led by Jackie Shirrefs who finished with a hat trick.

Defensively, junior #Emily Moore# scooped up six groundballs and forced two Lady turnovers. Classmate #Sarah Hutchison# also produced a balanced day, scoring one goal, picking up five groundballs, three draw controls and four caused turnovers.

The NDC goalkeeping corps split time between the pipes with freshman #Ally Phillips# earning the win, playing the opening 30 minutes. Phillips made six saves, only allowing one goal. Junior #Marissa Lundgren# closed out the game, allowing seven Lady scores, making three saves.

Kenyon's Chase Kreuter played all 60 minutes, making 16 saves.

Notre Dame outshot the Ladies, 43-21, including a 25-7 opening half. The Falcons also had 18 draw controls to just five for Kenyon. The Blue & White struggled with fouls being charged with 23, while Kenyon only had nine.

The contest at Kenyon marked NDC's final road game of the 2009 season. The Falcons finished with a 6-2 mark in eight road tilts. Notre Dame will be back in action with a short turnaround, as they close out their season with a home game against Wittenberg (first draw 2 p.m.).

The NDC program will recognize its graduating senior class prior to Sunday's game against Wittenberg. #Jo Bauswein#, #Holly Joseph#, Molly Merrill and #Jenna Schuerman# are the Falcons' four seniors on the 2009 roster. All four are four-year members of NDC Women's Lacrosse.

SEVEN-OUT?:
If Notre Dame can extend their winning streak to seven games with a season-ending win on Sunday, the Falcons would earn a program-best .786 winning percentage for the season. NDC has gone 12-4 (.750) in each of the last two years (2007-08).
