Williamson was named Head Cross Country Coach and Assistant Track & Field Coach at Notre Dame in January, 2011. He came to College Road from Northwood University (Mich.) where he served as assistant men’s and women’s cross country coach from 2007-2010. The 2001 graduate of the University of Akron also served as an assistant on Northwood's track and field squad. At NDC, Williamson will head both the men’s and women’s cross country programs.
Williamson’s experience also includes time at the University of Akron prior to his hire at Northwood (2003-2006). At UA, he coached long-distance runners in track and assisted with the cross country team. Williamson-coached distance runners set 11 Akron records and his Men's Cross Country charges earned program-best finishes in the Mid-American Conference in two consecutive seasons.
While at Northwood University, Williamson led the Timberwolves to some of the greatest successes in the history of the program including: 18 school records, Highest Women’s GLIAC finish, Highest Women’s NCAA DII Region Cross Country finish, 2-Time NCAA DII Track & Field All-American, 6 Individual NCAA National DII Track & Field Qualifiers, 9 NCAA DII Track & Field Automatic/Provisional Qualifying Marks, and USTFCCA All Academic Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams.

The former zip was a two-sport standout as a college athlete. Williamson ran track and cross country at Akron and was an all-conference (MAC) performer in track.
