Michael "Mac" McBride

Michael “Mac” McBride took charge of Notre Dame Men’s Soccer in 2001 when the program was instituted. In his 13 years at the helm of the men’s soccer team, McBride has accumulated 182 wins. His overall record of 182-63-14 gives him a 73.0 win percentage. 

Since joining the NCAA-II ranks in 2012, Mac has led the Falcons to the NCAA National Tournament every single year. 

During the 2013 season, McBride led the Falcons to a 15-4 record that included the Mountain East Conference (MEC) regular season title and a second consecutive trip to the second round of NCAA Division II playoffs. McBride was recognized as the MEC Coach of the Year as the team reached its highest ever NCAA DII ranking of fourth. The team would finish the season ranked sixth in the final NSCAA/NCAA DII final regular season rankings and tenth in the final season rankings of the NCAA DII Bennett Rankings. In addition the team received the NSCAA Team Academic Award.

In 2013 McBride coached three NSCAA All-Americans, two Daktronics NCAA DII All-Americans and two CoSIDA Academic All-Americans. Of the award winners team captain Philip Cutler was awarded the prestigious NSCAA Men's Scholar All-America First Team (College Division).

Under McBride, the Falcon squad was successful right out of the gate, going 8-10 in their inaugural season and earning an outright division championship in their second season (2002). Since then, NDC has tacked on five more division championships (2004-07, 10), three conference titles (2008, 2009, and 2010) and has earned five National Tournament appearances (2005, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 12). In 2010 he led his squad to a 23-1-0 record and to their first ever National Championship Final, finishing the season 23-1-0. In 2011, his team went unbeaten (19-0) winning NCAA DII ECAC Championship, OIC Championship and OIC Tournament. In 2012, men's soccer became the first NDC team to represent the college in the NCAA Division II post season with a trip to the second round of the playoffs. 
 
McBride's Falcon teams earned five AMC-North Division Championships (three outright, two shared) and two AMC Regular Season Championships (2008, 2010). The England native led his teams to five NAIA National Tournaments including the 2010 National Championship Final. All-time, McBride holds a 10-4-1 record in the national tournament. McBride was honored by the AMC six times - as AMC-North Coach of the Year in 2002, 2005, 2006 and 2007 and as AMC Coach of the Year in 2008 and 2010. He has twice been named the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association's 2010-11/2011-12 NCAA Division II/ NAIA Coach of the Year, and in 2011 was named ICAA Coach of the Year.
 
At NDC, McBride coached 15 NAIA All-Americans, 12 NAIA Scholar-Athletes, 28 First Team All-AMC performers, four AMC North Players of the Year, two AMC Players of the Year, an AMC Freshman of the Year, and a NAIA National Player of the Year.
 
In his two years at the NCAA Division II level, he has coached six players to All-American status, seven All- Region players, nine All-Conference players and eight All-Ohio performers. In addition, six of his former players have gone on to play at the professional level. Twenty eight players have also competed in the Premier Development League and the National Premier Soccer League for elite college players.
 
Before entering the college coaching scene, McBride is was a Professional Footballers Association Community Coach from 1992-94. Currently, McBride serves as President for the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association. 
 
McBride recently completed his United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National "B" License. McBride has the National Diploma (distinguished pass), Advanced National Diploma (distinguished pass), Premier Diploma (distinguished pass) Level One, Level Two and Level Three Goalkeeping Diplomas and a Director of Coaching Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. In addition, McBride also earned both a Preliminary and Preparatory Badge from the English Football Association.
 
Before his arrival at College Road, McBride was an assistant coach at, Walsh University from 1997-2000. Before he began his coaching career with Walsh, he was a scholarship athlete for the Cavaliers from 1995-1998. During his playing career, he earned All-AMC and All-Region honors and was an NAIA All-American nominee. Off the field, McBride was an NAIA All-America Scholar Athlete.
 
He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and a Master’s in Education from Walsh, and McBride earned a second Masters Degree in Education from Notre Dame College in the Spring of 2013. 
 
Originally from Birmingham, England, and a lifelong supporter of Birmingham City F.C., McBride currently resides in South Euclid with his wife Becky and their two daughters, Roisin and Alannah.
