Bill Rychel was named the second head coach in the history of Notre Dame College football on June 8, 2015.
Rychel was promoted to Head Coach after spending six seasons as offensive coordinator/assistant head coach for the Falcons football program.
Rychel was Notre Dame's offensive coordinator in the program's inaugural season in 2009, and was promoted to assistant head coach in 2010. Â
Bill, a Cleveland OH native, Â recruits the east side of Cleveland, Lake, Geauga, and Stark counties.
Prior to moving to College Road, Rychel most recently worked at Ohio Northern, where he coached for three seasons (2006-08), finishing his time with the Polar Bear’s as co-offensive coordinator.
Before his time at ONU, Rychel was the offensive line coach, offensive coordinator and assistant head coach for Tri-Sate (now Trine) in Indiana, in 2004 and 2005. Before that, he was the offensive line coach and assistant strength and conditioning coordinator for Coe (Iowa).
As a player, Rychel had an outstanding collegiate career. At Mount Union from 1997-2000, he helped the Purple Raiders win three national titles (1997, 1998, 2000). At guard, Rychel earned All-American awards (2000) and was twice-named First Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference. The standout lineman was also named Academic All-OAC in 2000. In his tenure as a player, Mount Union went 54-1.
Rychel graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education from Mount Union in 2001 and received a master’s degree in teaching from Coe in 2004.

Rychel resides in Lyndhurst with his wife Stephanie, and four children, Isabella, Raegan, Maggie, and Isaiah.
