Alan Estep joined the Notre Dame College football program as the team's Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach in January 2020. He will remain on the staff as an Offensive Assistant in 2022.
The Falcons offense did not skip a beat in Estep's second season as the Offensive Coordinator. In the fall of 2021, the Falcons' first full season since 2019, Notre Dame scored 40.6 points per game, which included a program and Mountain East Conference record 72 points against Alderson Broaddus to clinch the MEC title on Nov. 13. The offense also broke a program record with 687 yards of total offense against West Liberty, on Sept. 18. By scoring 40.6 points per game, the team ranked sixth in NCAA Division II. Other top ranking categories in the country include finishing seventh in red zone offense (91.2%), 13th in first downs gained (287) and 18th in yards per game (449.9).
In his first season as the offensive coordinator in the spring of 2021, the Falcons outscored their opponents by an average 38.6 points per game. The offense ranked in the top 25 in NCAA Division II with 306.4 rushing yards per game (2nd), 54 points per game (3rd), 499.2 yards of total offense per game (5th), 105 first downs (7th), a 62.9 completion percentage (8th), a 42.1 third down conversion percentage (16th), scored on 95.2-percent trips to the red zone (10th) and had 14.6 passing yards per completion (17th).
Previously, Estep served as the Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator at Marietta College, where he spent six seasons.
Estep led the Marietta offense to new heights in his time with the Pioneers. In 2017, he coached an offensive unit that scored an average of 30.8 points and gained 413.9 yards per game, which was the most productive season in 20 years. The team improved even more in 2018 as Marietta gained 448.4 yards on averaged and scored 37.8 points per game.
In 2016, Estep was named Ohio Athletic Conference Assistant Coach of the Year. In his first year as Offensive Coordinator at Marietta in 2013, his team improved its rushing output by over 125 yards per game.
In six seasons with the Pioneers, Estep coached 47 All-OAC honorees as well as seven All-Region and five All-American players.
Prior to coaching at Marietta, Estep spent eight seasons at Oberlin College, where he started as the Special Teams Coordinator in 2005 before being promoted to Associate Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator in 2009.
In his own playing career, Estep was a 37-game starter on the offensive line at Bluffton University, where he also saw playing time at tight end.
Estep graduated from Bluffton with a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in health, physical education and recreation in 2005.
