The Notre Dame College wrestling program was instituted in 2006 and in short order became one of the nation's most successful athletic programs. The Falcons began earning individual national titles in 2008 and they captured Notre Dame's first national title with a win at the 2010 NAIA National Championships. They repeated a year later to win their second national title at the 2011 NAIA National Championships.
In their first season as an NCAA Division II member (2012-13), the Falcons joined and won the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship. That season, NDC earned a third place finish at the NCAA Division II National Championships. After that season, Notre Dame left the GLIAC and became an independent team. Since that time, the Falcons have won two national titles at the 2014 and 2017 NCAA Division II National Championships. The Falcons have had 12 individual NCAA Division II National Titles. The wrestling program joined the Mountain East Conference in the 2019-20 season.
