RECRUITING RESTRICTIONS
The following conditions apply to recruiting activities involving enrolled student-athletes.
Telephone Calls
Enrolled student-athletes may not make or participate in telephone calls to PSAs at the direction of a coaching staff member or financed by NDC or a Representative of its Athletics Interests; however, they may receive telephone calls at the expense of the PSA after July 1 after the completion of the PSA’s junior year in high school. These same restrictions apply to all enrolled students.
Off-Campus Contacts
Off-campus, in-person recruiting contacts between enrolled student-athletes and a PSA are permissible if such contacts do not occur at the direction of a coaching staff member or a Representative of the Institution’s Athletics Interests.
Transportation and Expenses
An institution may not provide an enrolled student-athlete with transportation or expenses to recruit a PSA other than when the student-athlete serves as a student host.
Written or Electronically Transmitted Correspondence
It is permissible for an enrolled student-athlete to engage in written or electronically transmitted correspondence with a PSA, provided it is not done at the direction and/or expense of a coaching staff member or a Representative of the Institution’s Athletics Interests.
Student Hosting
NDC may provide the following to a student host entertaining a PSA:
• A maximum of $30 for each day of the visit to cover all actual costs of entertaining the PSA (and the PSA’s relatives or legal guardians), excluding the cost of meals and admissions. These funds may not be used for the purchase of souvenirs such as T-shirts or other institutional mementos. It is permissible to provide the student host with an additional $15 per day for each additional PSA the host entertains;
• Complimentary meal, provided the student host is accompanying the PSA during that portion of the visit; and
• Complimentary admission to a campus athletics event, provided the admission is used to accompany a PSA to the event during the visit.
NDC or a Representative of its Athletics Interests may not provide a student host or a PSA with the use of an automobile during a visit.
