NDC WOMEN'S SOCCER-HISTORY

2010 Team Stats | 2010 Team Cume

Notre Dame Women's soccer was instituted in 1995. The Falcon squad struggled initially, but the program steadily improved after coach Mike Shiels was hired in 2003.  In Shiels' tenure, Notre Dame posted double-digit win totals for the first time in program history (2006), notched the Falcons' best single-season record (2007), and reached the NAIA Coaches' Poll Top-25 for the first time (2008). Shiels’ Falcon squads earned post season bids for the first time in program history in 2006.  The Falcons qualified for the NAIA regional in both 2006 and 2007. In those two seasons, four Falcon players were named First Team All-Division (American Mideast Conference-North) players. In 2010 Shiles led his squad to an 8-4-4 record and drew with No. 9 William Carey (Miss.) 1-1. In conference play Shiles led the Blue & White to a third place finish with a 7-2-1 AMC record. The team finished in the AMC Tournament Semifinal.

AFFILIATIONS

Notre Dame earned provisional NCAA-II membership on July 8, 2011, changing their affiliation after 10 highly successful years in the NAIA. The Blue & White competed as an independent DII team in 2011, before joining the GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) in 2012, and became a charter member of the Mountain East Conference in 2013. In their first season in the MEC, the Falcons captured the Regular Season Title, before winning the MEC Tournament in 2014, with a 1-0 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan in the Title Match, punching their first ticket to the NCAA National Tournament.
