SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Notre Dame College entered Mountain East Conference play with a bang, putting 13 goals on the board in the first half en route to a season-high number of goals scored in a 19-6 victory over Davis & Elkins College. Freshman
Gwen Bogash scored a career-high eight goals for the Falcons, which is tied for second in NDC single-game history.
Within the first three minutes of the contest, Notre Dame had already taken a 3-0 lead. Sophomore
Jovie Noack scored the first goal of the game, at the 14:27-mark. After a shot by D&E was blocked, Notre Dame went back down the field and junior
Merryn Eaton found sophomore
Carlie Wilson for a goal. And then junior
Joselyn Storm caused a turnover, leading to a goal by Eaton, with 12:36 to go in the first.
However, the Falcons did not score again for nearly 10 minutes. With 3:46 on the clock, Wilson caused a turnover, took the ball down the field and passed to Bogash for her first goal of the contest. Storm, Wilson and Bogash all scored in the final three minutes of the quarter to take a 7-2 lead into the second quarter.
Early in the second quarter, Storm caused another turnover to give NDC the ball back. Wilson took a shot that was saved, but Noack picked the ball up and scored NDC's eighth goal. Bogash then scored twice, in the span of 40 seconds, giving Notre Dame a 10-2 lead, with 10:46 remaining in the second quarter.
Both teams had opportunities, but neither scored for over four minutes. However, between the 6:18-mark and the 3:42-mark, Noack scored and Bogash added two more goals to give NDC a 13-2 lead at halftime.
The previous season-high for goals in a first half was 10, which was set in the season opener on Feb. 18. In the first 30 minutes, on Wednesday, the Falcons outshot the Senators 25-7 and recorded 12 draw controls to D&E's three in the opening 30 minutes.
With NDC leading by double-digits, a running clock was in place throughout the third quarter. Davis & Elkins outscored the Falcons, 2-1, in the stanza.
Freshman
Tatum Hagen won the opening draw control of the fourth quarter and Wilson scored within the first minute. Notre Dame then went on a 4-1 run in the final nine minutes of the game. Bogash had two of the goals during that run and junior
Cameron Briggs scored her first goal as a member of the Falcons, before Storm tallied her second of the game.
Storm led the team with nine draw controls, to go along with her two goals. Wilson and Noack both had three goals, which tied a career-high for Wilson and set a career-high for Noack. Scoville had a career-high three assists, while Wilson and sophomore
Tess Lisy each had two assists.
Goalie
Annika Duncan saved eight shots, while allowing just six goals.
Along with a season-high 19 goals, as a team, NDC also tied a season-high with 12 assists. The team's 13 caused turnovers was the second-most in a game.
