Jackson leads Falcons to largest margin of victory in three years on senior day

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Dazzling in her final home game as a Falcon, senior Nadia Jackson generated a career-high 17 points to lead Notre Dame College (10-18) to their largest margin of victory over the last three seasons. NDC dominated Salem (4-25) 85-53, besting the Tigers by 32 points inside Murphy Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon for senior day.
 
The contest started slow before Karli Anker broke the stalemate with a three-pointer at the 7:26 mark (3-0). Jackson jump started the NDC offense as the guard assisted on each of the Falcons first two baskets to lead 5-0. Next, the Falcons got on a roll by shooting 9-16 (56.3%) from the floor, including 4-6 (66.7%) from downtown in the frame, to lead 22-7 after the first quarter.
 
Notre Dame continued to pour it on with three consecutive baskets to begin the second quarter, moving in front 30-7. Later in the period, Jackson carved her way to the hoop on back-to-back possessions to reestablish a 21-point edge (35-14) with 5:02 left in the half. The scoring stalled for the remainder of the frame as NDC held SU scoreless over the final 5:34 in the half, on just 2-17 (11.8%) shooting from the field, to lead 37-14 at the break.
 
Both offenses found their groove during the third quarter, as NDC narrowly claimed the frame 25-24. Notre Dame stretched their lead to as many as 28 points on a three-pointer from Izabella Zirzow with 8:06 to play in the third. The Falcons remained in control of the contest as Rachel Richardson sunk a pair of free throws to close out the third quarter, 62-38.
 
In the fourth quarter, Jackson opened up a 32-point lead for Notre Dame on a three-pointer with 7:02 left in the game. The Falcons continued to shoot the three well as the NDC lead swelled to 37 points when Kennadi Harris drained a three-pointer with just over three minutes to play. Notre Dame took the quarter 23-15 on an impressive 5-8 (62.5%) shooting from beyond the arc in the period. The Falcons secured the victory 85-53, notching their largest margin of victory (+32), since defeating WV Wesleyan by 47 back on Mar. 4, 2021.
 
Offensively, Jackson paced Notre Dame on senior day with a career-high 17 points. In addition, Anker (14), Harris (12), Richardson (10) and Noel Weathers (10) allowed NDC to total five players in double figures.
 
Jackson, Weathers and Lilee Carlson facilitated the offense with three assists apiece, tying a career-high for Weathers and setting a season-high for Jackson.
 
On the glass, Weathers hauled in a game-high 10 rebounds to produce her team-leading ninth double-double of the year. Jackson (6) and Hayley St. John (5) contributed to the rebounding effort, as Jackson notched another season-best.
 
Defensively, Weathers swatted a game-high three shots, to further her NDC single season record of 65 blocked shots.
 
As a team, Notre Dame shot 32-67 (47.8%) from the floor, 14-24 (58.3%) from three and 7-8 (87.5%) from the free throw line. The Falcons added 40 rebounds, 18 assists, six blocks and four steals.
 
14 made three-pointers are a season-high, and tied for the fifth-most in NDC program history. Moreover, it is the most made threes since making 15 against Wheeling back on Jan. 10, 2021. In addition, 58.3-percent shooting from beyond the arc is tied for the fifth-most efficient mark in program history.
 
The Notre Dame College women's basketball team will be back in action on Wednesday Mar. 6 at 12 p.m. as the Falcons head down to Wesbanco Arena in Wheeling, WV. for the Mountain East Conference Tournament. NDC has earned the No. 10 seed and will face No. 7 seed Glenville State University in the First Round.
