Odum leads NDC to win over Lincoln, Fisher pitches shutout to defeat Tiffin

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – In game one, Meadow Odum had one of the best performances at the plate in Notre Dame College's program history. She led the Falcons to a 9-3 victory against Lincoln University of Missouri, on Saturday. The Falcons then finished the sweep of the weekend with a 3-0 win over Tiffin University.

NDC's senior Katelyn DeWeese walked to leadoff the first game of the day, against Lincoln. She stole second and came all the way around to score on a fly ball off the bat of junior Destany Blake.

LU tied the contest at one, in the bottom of the first inning, before Odum took over. With a runner on second base, in the second inning, Odum hit her first home run in nearly two seasons to put Notre Dame back in front, 3-1.

Freshman Kaitlyn Mazzocca led off the fourth inning with an infield single and, two batters later, Odum hit a triple into right-center field to plate another run. Later in the inning, DeWeese hit an RBI single to give Notre Dame a 5-2 lead.

Sophomore Lindsay Breuer knocked in a run in the top of the fifth inning. And in the seventh, after a single and a walk put two runners on base, Odum stepped up and hit her second home run of the day to grab three more RBI.

Odum finished game one with three hits, six RBI, two home runs and 11 total bases. Not only are those all career-highs, but she also tied the program single-game record in home runs and total bases, and tied for second for most RBI in one game.

DeWeese also had three hits and Mazzocca totaled two hits.

Allison Weilnau earned her first win of the season by pitching 5 1/3 innings, allowing just three runs and two of them were earned. For the second consecutive game, senior Madison Olszewski came out of the bullpen and did not allow an earned run. On Saturday, she went 1 2/3 innings to close the game.

The Falcons had just enough offense in game two to get the win. And in the circle, sophomore Grace Fisher threw another gem, putting together a complete game shutout.

Tiffin was threatening in the top of the first inning by loading the bases with only one out. But, Fisher got a fly out and a pop out to set the Dragons down.

DeWeese was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the first. After a sacrifice bunt and a walk, sophomore Danielle Fick hit an infield single to load the bases. Breuer singled to left field to score one run.

NDC was threatening in the second inning, with runners on first and third, but did not score. In the bottom of the third, Fick led off with a double and came around to score on a groundout by Mazzocca.

Tiffin made a pitching change prior to the bottom of the fourth inning, but freshman Hope Barrett drew a walk to start the frame. With two out, pinch-hitter Mia Cipriano came through with an RBI single up the middle to give NDC a 3-0 lead.

In the sixth inning, the first two runners reached base for Tiffin and then an error, later in the inning, loaded the bases. Fisher worked out of the jam, once again, without allowing a runner to cross the plate.

Fisher struck out two in Notre Dame's first shutout of the season.

NDC's next game will be in Florida, where they battle Minnesota State and Winona State, on March 2.
