Baseball bested by nationally-ranked UIndy in home opener

AVON, Ohio – A crisp February afternoon gave way to the home opener for the Notre Dame College baseball team at Mercy Health Stadium. However on Friday, the Falcons fell to No. 5 University of Indianapolis, 12-1 in seven innings.

In the first inning, both sides went in order as NDC starter Eric Parriett received the nod. Parriett rolled three straight groundouts as the game moved into the second inning.

The scoring opened in the top half of the second, as UIndy tallied two runs on two hits to move in front 2-0.

The Falcons responded during the home half of the frame, as a single by Carson Petrecca and a pair of walks from Nate Miller and Aaron Miranda loaded the bases with two outs. Next, Dylan Wimbs took one for the team, with an RBI hit-by-pitch to cut the Greyhound lead in half 2-1.

UIndy added a run during the third inning on two hits, as a lead-off single came around to score, 3-1. The Greyhounds increased their advantage during the fourth inning with seven runs on four hits to move ahead 10-1.

Notre Dame got the offense going during the fifth inning, as Caden Gomes and Tyler Shadle produced a pair of singles. However, a Greyhound double-play erased the NDC momentum in the frame.

During the bottom of the seventh inning, Miranda generated a lead-off double down the left field line, however the Falcons fell to the Greyhounds on the day 12-1.

In total, four Falcons posted a hit in Gomes, Shadle, Petrecca and Miranda. Miller reach base twice via walks.
