COLUMBUS, Ohio – After scoring a single goal in the first half, Notre Dame College was able to convert on two corner kick opportunities in the second half to pull away from Ohio Dominican University, in a 3-1 victory.
The Falcons have scored three goals in the first two games of a season for the first time since 2011.
Right away, Notre Dame was on the attack. In the seventh minute, a pass set junior
Ailton Fagner Silva up for a chance on the left side of the box with just the goalkeeper in front. ODU's Cory Pulles fell to the ground to grab the ball and put an end to the threat.
The Panthers' only shot on goal of the half came in the 12th minute, but junior
Danilo Abayo Wilson made the save.
A free kick led to NDC's first goal in the 34th minute. After the ball entered the box on the initial attack, Pulles punched it away. Sophomore
Jared Rimmer then took possession and launched a shot that bounced off the post. Ohio Dominican scrambled to get back into position when junior
Juan Pineda took advantage of the chaos as he swung the leg and sent the ball into the net for his first goal as a member of Notre Dame.
About 23 minutes into the second stanza, the Falcons put some insurance on the scoreboard. An NDC corner kick entered the box, but the ball was again sent away by the ODU defense. Junior
Callum Cleary recovered the possession and sent a line drive inside the left post from 33 yards away.
About three minutes later, another corner kick resulted in a third score. The ball was sent into the box and junior
David Kolar took a shot that was saved. Kolar stayed in position and reloaded for his first career goal.
ODU's only goal of the game found the net with about 10 seconds left. A late throw in, followed by a quick pass, led to the ball being in the middle of the box. It bounced off Evan French and then Mubelele Mhango sent the ball past Wilson.
The Falcons took five more shots in the second half (9-4) than ODU and NDC had five corner kicks in the final 45 minutes, while Ohio Dominican had zero.
Notre Dame will travel to Elkins, W.Va. to play No. 12 Davis & Elkins College, on Sept. 6. First kick is scheduled for 7 p.m.
