Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Notre Dame records sixth shutout of the season in big win over Salem

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – In eight games this season, Notre Dame College has allowed three goals. Over the past two games, the Falcons' offense has totaled 13 goals. And NDC continues to hold an undefeated record on the road after defeating Salem University, 5-0, on Sunday.

The set piece worked for the Falcons all game, and the first one was converted in the third minute. Junior Carlos Almeida sent the ball in off a corner and junior Connor O'Reilly redirected it into the net with a header.

Notre Dame took five corners in the first half and eight in the second for a total of 13 in the game, while Salem did not have one opportunity.

O'Reilly was in on the second goal of the game, as well. Lined up for a free kick, back near midfield, the midfielder launched the ball into the box and junior Mirai Sato finished it off for his first goal of the contest in the 16th minute.

SU's best chance of the match came in the 30th minute, following a free kick. Notre Dame's goalkeeper Danilo Abayo Wilson went to the ground to try and corral the ball, but could not secure it. Ricardo Gallego Curto sent a shot in, but Wilson punched it away. Ionut Rares Gaspar gathered it in and took the opportunity, but Wilson grabbed the shot out of the air.

In the second half, Notre Dame was even more dominant. The Falcons took 10 shots, while the Tigers were held to three.

Freshman Alex Greaves had the ball and worked around a defender into the box, on the left side. Once he saw an opening, the native of Hertford, England bent the shot to the upper right corner, under the crossbar to put NDC on top, 3-0.

In the 62nd minute, the Falcons had a couple corner kick opportunities. On the second corner, Almeida launched the ball into the box, finding junior David Kolar for the goal.

Almeida tied his career-high with two assists in the game.

The final goal was scored in the 75th minute, as sophomore Jared Rimmer worked with the ball on the right side. He popped a pass up in front of the goal and Sato went sprinting in and took a sliding shot to find the back of the net.

Sato had another chance in the 77th minute, but that shot was saved. He has now scored a total of four goals over the last two games and has posted three multi-goal games in the last four matches.

Greaves took a career-high four shots in the game and he has now scored in back-to-back matches.

NDC will head to Buckhannon, W.Va. for a matchup against West Virginia Wesleyan College, on Sept. 27. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
