Six Falcons score as Notre Dame topples Salem on Sunday afternoon

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – An offensive outpour for the Notre Dame College women's soccer team (3-2-2) on Sunday afternoon featured seven goals on 33 shots en route to a dominating victory over Salem University (0-4-1). Six Falcons scored as junior Miriam Szijarto led the team with a pair of scores, her first career multi-goal performance.
 
Notre Dame started the scoring early and often as sophomore Savannah Singh found the back of the net for her first goal of the season in the 21st minute, gifting NDC a 1-0 lead.
 
Following the score, Szijarto subbed onto the pitch for Notre Dame and made an immediate impact by scoring twice in the 24th and 31st minutes (3-0). Senior Drew Barr connected with the Ravenna, Ohio native for her second score, the first career multi-goal game for NDC's leading goal scorer (5).
 
The Falcons enjoyed a fruitful first half which included a 3-0 lead at the break, outshooting Salem 15-0.
 
NDC continued to apply pressure in the second stanza as Sophia Motolese generated her first goal of the year in the 53rd minute, moving Notre Dame in front 4-0.
 
Sophomore Mia Maruna added her fourth score of the season in the 62nd minute, allowing the Falcons lead to grow to 5-0.
 
Freshman Delaney David joined the score sheet for the first time in her career in the 75th minute, as Szijarto assisted the Brooklyn High School product to put Notre Dame ahead 6-0.
 
Sophomore Emma Buda closed out the scoring by tallying her first goal of the year, an 86th minute score, as senior Meghan Soltis earned an assist for the first time in her career.
 
Notre Dame was relentless on the offensive side of the ball, while being stout in the back line. NDC downed SU 7-0, tied for the third-most goals in a match in program history and the most since Oct. 23, 2022 at Glenville State. In addition, the Falcons outshot the Tigers 33-0, the fifth-most shots in a game in program history. As a team, NDC generated 17 points, the fifth-most in program history and most since Oct. 10, 2018 at Glenville State.

Goalkeepers Jordan Pasalqua and Victoria Long combined for the Falcons first shutout of the year, as each goalie recored 45 minutes played and zero shots faced.
 
The Notre Dame College women's soccer team will be back in action on Wednesday Sept. 27 at 3 p.m. at West Virginia Wesleyan College.
