SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – On Sunday afternoon, Notre Dame College totaled 10 shots, but was unable to get one into the back of the net. The University of Charleston took the lead in the first half and used a late penalty kick to win, 2-0.
About 13 minutes into the contest, the Falcons had, possibly, their best scoring opportunity of the entire game. Goalkeeper
Danilo Abayo Wilson sent a goal kick well past midfield on target to junior
Ailton Fagner Silva. Silva raced alongside a couple Charleston defenders into the box and took a shot from the left side that was saved by UC's Marc Torrado.
Silva would lead all players with six shots, while also taking two shots on goal.
In the first 25 minutes, Notre Dame had taken six shots to Charleston's one. However, in the 30th minute, the Golden Eagles grabbed the lead. A UC free kick was launched into the box and the battle for the ball began. After a ricochet and a quick pass, Ken Raghoebar was credited with the goal.
Just three minutes later, NDC had another solid chance. The ball was sent to the right side, where junior
Carlos Almeida had an open look, but popped the shot up over the crossbar.
NDC was held to just three shots in the second half. On the other side, Charleston only launched four shots in the final 45 minutes, but one was a successful penalty kick by Jack Kay in the 85th minute for the second goal of the game.
Next up for Notre Dame is Wheeling University, on Sept. 20, at 4 p.m.
