Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

NDC bested by West Liberty on Wednesday

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – Generating their most shots (23) since Sept. 21 of last season, the Notre Dame College women's soccer team (0-2-2, 0-2 MEC) dueled West Liberty University (1-2-1, 1-1 MEC) on the road Wednesday evening, as WLU bested NDC 2-0.
 
The Hilltoppers struck first during the eighth minute of play as Morgan Kost found the back of the net (1-0).
 
The Falcons responded with a flurry of shots from Mia Maruna, Ashley Rainho, Madison Marino, Miriam Szijarto and Olivia Motolese over the remainder of the half, as NDC outshot WLU 10-4 in the frame. However, the Hilltoppers carried a 1-0 advantage into the break.
 
Notre Dame began the second half with shots on goal from Marino and Kalie Blaising in the 55th minute, but WLU keeper Zara Wickert kept the Falcons at bay.
 
West Liberty tallied their second goal of the match via Holly Brighton in the 57th minute (2-0).
 
NDC continued to battle with another pair of opportunities from Blaising and Maruna less than a minute later. The Falcons registered in seven shots over the next 10 minutes as Notre Dame continued their relentless pursuit.
 
Despite a trio of chances in the final five minutes by Savannah Singh and Sophia Motolese, the Falcons fell 2-0 on the road Wednesday evening.
 
Notre Dame totaled 23 shots on the night, led by Maruna with five, followed by Blaising and Marino with four. In addition, Blaising (3), Marino (3) and Rainho (2) drove multiple shots on goal to continue the offensive prowess.
 
Senior Jordan Pasalaqua tied a season-high with six saves, while Wickert grabbed 10 for WLU.
 
The Falcons outshot the Hilltoppers 23-11, including 10-8 in shots on goal. WLU edged NDC in corner kicks 3-2.
 
The Notre Dame College women's soccer team will be back in action on Sunday Sept. 17 as Fairmont State University comes to Mueller Field at 3 p.m.
