CLERMONT, Fla. – On Tuesday, Notre Dame College outhit California University of Pennsylvania, 6-3, but a home run gave the Vulcans a 2-0 win. In the second game of the day, Notre Dame fell to Concordia-St. Paul, 14-4.
Against Cal (Pa.), freshman
Danielle Fick singled in her first two plate appearances and moved into scoring position both times. The Falcons were unable to bring her around to score. Sophomore
Ella Collinsworth also singled twice in the game, and got into scoring position both times.
NDC's starting pitcher
Grace Fisher had another solid performance. She pitched a complete game, stuck out five and allowed three hits. She worked her way through a tough fifth inning, which included her only major mistake of the game.
Kaitlyn Achtermeier led off the fifth with a single and moved to second on a passed ball. Another base hit nearly brought her around to score, but a solid throw from center fielder
Alexi Maciejowski to home plate was enough to tag Achtemeier out at home and kept the game scoreless. However, Rylee Evans came on as a pinch-hitter for California and hit a two-run homer.
Junior
Katelyn DeWeese also totaled two hits for Notre Dame.
In the second game, Notre Dame was trailing Concordia-St. Paul, 1-0. In the bottom of the second inning, four consecutive Falcons reached base as senior
Emily Marsh walked, Maciejowski singed, freshman
Lindsay Breuer singled and then sophomore
Destany Blake had an RBI base hit down the right field line to tie the game at one.
Concordia's bats then came to life. The Bears scored five runs in the third inning and added eight in the sixth.
With two runners on, in the bottom of the sixth inning, Maciejowski launched a ball over the fence in left-center field for a three-run homer.
Notre Dame has another early day tomorrow, as they battle Northwood University, at 9 a.m., and then take on Bemidji State University, at 11:30 a.m.
