INDIANAPOLIS – An early challenge awaited Notre Dame College, on Wednesday, as the Falcons opened the 2023 campaign against No. 7 University of Indianapolis. NDC scored twice in the third quarter, but UIndy was able to grab the 17-2 victory.
Less than a minute into the contest, Notre Dame had an opportunity, right in front of the net. Looking to put the first goal on the scoreboard, junior
Charlotte Vari lined up for a free position shot, but it was saved by UIndy's goalkeeper Audrey Moran.
Freshman goalkeeper
Annika Duncan saved five shots in the first half for NDC, including four in the second quarter. Three of her five stops were from free position shots.
Early in the third quarter, Duncan made a very difficult kick save on a low strike by UIndy's Megan Dunn.
With 4:30 remaining in the third quarter, sophomore
Joselyn Storm made a cut toward the goal. She was able to split a couple defenders and found space to put the ball into the net for the first NDC goal of the season.
Senior
Megan Dano, who led the Falcons in assists last season, put her mark on the game, late in the quarter. She wrapped around behind the goal and fired a pass to sophomore
Grace Nickoloff for the Falcons' second goal of the contest.
Duncan made four additional saves in the second half, including one on another free position shot in the fourth quarter.
The Falcons will travel to Florida for a matchup with Flagler College, on March 7. First draw is scheduled for 4 p.m.
