NDC scores in first half, Concord ties it later as the Falcons earn fourth draw of season

BECKLEY, W.Va – Notre Dame College has locked up the two-seed in the Mountain East Conference Tournament and added another point to the regular season standings. The Falcons, who have lost just once in the month of October, played to a 1-1 draw against Concord University, on Sunday.

Concord and NDC have now played twice this season and have tied twice, playing to a scoreless draw on Oct. 1.

Notre Dame took two shots on goal in the first 15 minutes, on Sunday. First, freshman Higor Xisto took a shot that was credited as a Concord team save. Junior Carlos Almeida was set up on a free kick, outside the 18, and took a shot that was saved by CU's Keegan Grant, who jumped up and grabbed the ball near the crossbar.

In the 26th minute, the Falcons found the net. Grant cleared the ball away but junior Callum Cleary headed the ball at midfield, over to junior Ailton Fagner Silva. Silva controlled the ball and centered it before sending a pass over to Almeida, who beat the Concord defense in the box for a goal.

Almeida has now scored four goals in the last five games and is second on the team with five total goals.

NDC's goalkeeper Danilo Abayo Wilson made two saves throughout the game and both were in the first half. He stopped a shot on target by Fabian Amhof, in the 15th minute and then saved another shot by Amhof in the 27th.

Neither team had a great opportunity on the offensive end, early in the second half. But in the 74th minute, Concord tied the game. Contact was made inside the box, as the NDC defense attempted to clear the ball. A foul was called and that led to a penalty kick by Tomas Kelly.

Notre Dame took four shots on goal in the final 10 minutes of the match. With six minutes remaining, the Falcons set up an open shot when senior Evans Armah passed to Almeida, in the middle of the field. Almeida found an opening, but his shot was saved by Grant.

With two minutes left, a cross entered in front of the goal and a quick shot was taken from close range, but Grant turned it away.

NDC took 16 shots throughout the game, as Almeida led the team with six.

Notre Dame comes home for its final regular season home game, on Nov. 1, against Salem University. First kick is scheduled for 12 p.m.
