Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s soccer reaches 10 wins after getting past West Liberty

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – On Sunday afternoon, penalty kicks became a major factor as Notre Dame College completed the season series sweep of West Liberty University, with a 2-1 victory. For the second consecutive season, NDC men's soccer has reached double-digit wins.

As they did in the first game against West Liberty this year, the Falcons went up 1-0 in the first half. On Sunday it came in the 15th minute, when sophomore Jared Rimmer pushed the ball past midfield to sophomore Parker Bolin. From there, Bolin used a quick touch to center the ball over to freshman Will Couch, who quickly moved around a pair of defenders and sent a shot in that hit the left post and then found the net.

"I was through on goal and, this season, I've wanted to put up a few more shots on goal," Couch said. "When I saw it going into the top corner, I was very happy. It was a great team goal… It's something that I have tried to work on and get on the scoresheet a little more."

NDC's goalkeeper Danilo Abayo Wilson saved a shot with less than a minute remaining in the first half, which would be WLU's first shot on goal of the game.

Wilson made two saves in goal for the Falcons throughout the game.

Notre Dame outshot West Liberty 11-3 in the first 45 minutes, and led the Hilltoppers, 1-0, at halftime.

West Liberty changed the complexion of the game, less than 10 minutes into the second half. The Hilltoppers were attacking and had beaten the Falcons' defense. Inside the box, freshman Higor Xisto was called for a foul after bumping a WLU forward. Vitor Otsuka scored on the penalty kick and tied the match at one, in the 54th minute.

The Falcons had a few opportunities in the second half, but both defenses made it tough to possess the ball. Xisto took a shot in the 75th minute, which was saved by WLU's goalkeeper Noah Underwood. But, in the 85th minute, he would hit the game-winner for NDC. A hard slide tackle attempt on senior Evans Armah was called a foul in the box, giving the Falcons a chance at a penalty kick. Xisto sent the PK to the lower right corner to put NDC ahead 2-1.

Notre Dame will battle West Virginia Wesleyan, on Oct. 25, at 3 p.m. The match will be played on Mueller Field.
