Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

NDC wins with late goal, shuts out Frostburg State for second time this season

FROSTBURG, Md. – Notre Dame College and Frostburg State University were scoreless through 80 minutes, on Wednesday afternoon. In the 81st minute, NDC broke through when junior Carlos Almeida scored his second goal of the season to give the Falcons a 1-0 win.

Junior Ailton Fagner Silva took the first shot on target, just three minutes into the game. Silva would take four shots in the game and sent two shots on goal.

Both goalkeepers had two saves in the first half. NDC's Danilo Abayo Wilson had a great save with about nine minutes remaining in the first stanza. A couple passes opened up an opportunity for the Bobcats, one-on-one with Wilson. The Falcons' keeper came out to push the shot away before jumping up and clearing the ball. Junior David Kolar redirected the ball off of a corner kick in the final seconds of the first half, but FSU's Joel Assal made the stop.

Notre Dame's offense continued to attack, posting ten shots in the final 45 minutes. The Falcons ended the game with 20 shots taken, the fourth most in a game this season. NDC's defense held Frostburg State to just four total shots, and one in the second half.

Wilson tallied another save in the 76th minute, when Hugo Portillo sent the ball into the box from just inside 30 yards away.

Just five minutes later, NDC used three great passes to score a goal. Freshman Higor Xisto sent the ball to junior Callum Cleary, who then passed to senior Evans Armah. In the middle of the field, Armah put a pass up in the air, in the direction of junior Mirai Sato. Sato ran past the ball and took a defender with him, allowing Almeida to continue his run, take possession and send in an open shot for a goal. The goal was Almeida's first since Sept. 10.

Notre Dame's defense now has eight shutouts in 13 games this season.

The Falcons have a week off before traveling to Wheeling for a matchup with the Cardinals, on Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m.
