BECKLEY, W.Va. – Notre Dame College (26-25, 20-12 MEC) fell 12-0 in game one of the MEC Tournament to top seeded Charleston (24-15, 25-7 MEC) on Thursday afternoon at Epling Stadium.
The Falcons threatened during the second inning with three singles to load the bases by
Kyle Espineli,
Tyler Shadle and
Shane Mittleman, but NDC would leave the stranded and the game tied at 0-0.
Charleston notched the first run of the game during the bottom of the second inning pn an RBI single to second base (1-0).
Notre Dame would load the bases again in the top of the fourth inning. Espineli led off with a bit by pitch, followed by
Hayden Parker's single up the middle and a Mittleman walk, but the Golden Eagles were able to escape the jam once more.
UC tallied their second run during the bottom of the frame with an RBI single through the left side (2-0). Charleston would open the game up in the bottom of the fifth inning with eight runs on six hits, moving ahead 10-0.
In the top of the sixth inning, Shadle singled to center field, marking his second hit of the contest to lead the Notre Dame offense which generated six base knocks on the day.
UC added a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, to win by run rule 12-0.
Notre Dame College will play again on Friday May 13 at noon against the loser of Frostburg State vs. Glenville State. Since the MEC Tournament is double elimination, NDC must win-out in order to keep the 2022 campaign alive.
