CHARLESTON, W.Va. – On Thursday afternoon, Notre Dame College and the University of Charleston were separated by no more than four goals through the first three quarters. The Falcons closed the door in the fourth quarter, outscoring UC 7-1 in the final 15 minutes to win by a score of 18-9.
In a low scoring first quarter, NDC was first to put the ball in the net. On the defensive side, senior
Mackenzie Levine saved a shot and the Falcons scored on the other end of the field when sophomore
McKenna Kincaid found the back of the net at the 11:57-mark.
Kincaid finished the day with a season-high four goals.
Graduate student
Emileigh Scott won the next draw control and that led to a goal by freshman
Piper Hammond, with an assist by freshman
Joselyn Storm, about a minute later.
Both teams' defenses stepped up and the ball went back and forth. The final goal of the first period occurred with 3:47 to go, when Kincaid gave NDC a 3-0 lead.
The scoring increased in the second quarter and less than a minute into the stanza, Scott won the draw control and Storm scored.
The Golden Eagles put their first goal on the board with 13:29 remaining before the half, but Scott won the following draw control and scored her first goal of the game. She would finish with five in the contest.
Senior
Ebony Reddick scored at the 4:38-mark to put Notre Dame up 6-2, but then Charleston scored three of the final four goals of the half. At the halftime break, NDC led by just two goals, 7-5.
Scott scored to start the third quarter, and Charleston responded. UC had two shots go wide of the target before Kayleigh Burns made the score 8-6 in favor of the Falcons. The Golden Eagles then won the draw control and scored again to pull within one goal with about 10 minutes to go in the third.

Andrea Lopez caused a turnover and that led to a goal by Kincaid. Junior
Alicyn Loberg took the next draw control and Scott found the back of the net. With 4:40 remaining in the quarter, NDC went up 10-7.
Loberg had five draw controls on the day and now has 102 in her career, which is eighth most in program history.
Heading into the fourth quarter, Notre Dame led 11-8, and then the Falcons put some distance between themselves and the home team.
NDC scored six times before Charleston put its first goal on the board in the quarter. Storm had two goals, while Scott, Kincaid, freshman
Piper Hammond, senior
Taylor Skomp and junior
Megan Dano all scored once in the stanza.
All nine Notre Dame shots in the final period were on goal. They also put together game-high 6-for-6 on clears in the fourth.
"We started off slow but composure at the end of the game really carried us to a victory," said head coach
Ben Morhac. "McKenna had an amazing game today against her old team. Always great to be undefeated in conference and we are looking forward to Senior Day this Sunday."
Scott finished the game with an assist along with her five goals. Hammond had three goals, an assist and a career-high six groundballs. Storm tied a career-high with three assists to go along with two goals. Levine saved seven shots in the contest.
Notre Dame celebrates Senior Day on April 10 as they battle Davis & Elkins College. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
