Weilnau’s complete game, along with extra base hits give NDC win in game one of doubleheader

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Notre Dame College got the day started with a strong performance in game one of a doubleheader against Davis & Elkins College. Allison Weilnau was strong in the pitcher's circle and, at the plate, Emily Marsh and Alexi Maciejowski knocked in the runs in a 4-1 win. A six-run sixth inning in game two gave D&E an 8-5 victory.

Senior Daniele Rivera walked to give NDC its first baserunner in the first inning of game one. With two out, Marsh hit a pop up to center field, but the ball was dropped and Rivera came around to score.

In the top of the third, the Senators' Trinity Cossette doubled to right-center, Sharon Morales walked and Mia Mendoza singled to load the bases. Weilnau worked out of the jam with two fielder's choice force outs at the plate and a strikeout.

A single by Katelyn DeWeese and an error on a sacrifice bunt attempt by Rivera put Falcons on second and third. Marsh stepped up and found a gap in the outfield for a two-run double to put NDC ahead 3-0 in the bottom of the third.

D&E's only run came on a fielder's choice in the sixth inning. NDC responded right away as Maciejowski launched a ball over the left field fence and the Falcons took a 4-1 lead.

Marsh, Rehm and Fording all had doubles for NDC. Weilnau (4-6) allowed one run in seven innings, striking out three hitters. She picked up the win.

The Falcons looked to have the upper hand for most of the second game. Following a D&E home run in the top of the first, Notre Dame responded when Marsh hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at one.

Linzey Allard hit her second solo home run of the game in the fourth inning, but Maciejowski tripled to right field in the bottom of the fourth, scoring a run and tying the game at two.

A three-run fifth inning gave NDC a 5-2 lead. After a single by Fording, a fielder's choice and a double by sophomore Meadow Odum, runners were on second and third with two outs. Rivera singled to right-center, plating two runs. Freshman Emma Gumont then singled, moving Rivera to second, and Marsh singled to right field for another RBI.

The Senators' offense was able to string a few hits together and they struck for six runs in the top of the sixth to take an 8-5 lead.

The Falcons had several impressive performances at the dish in game two. Rivera went 3-for-3 with two RBI. Gumont, Marsh and Maciejowski all had two hits. NDC totaled 11 hits in the second contest of the day.

Notre Dame will face West Virginia Wesleyan, on April 3, with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
