AVON, Ohio – The surging Notre Dame College Falcons (12-16, 8-4 MEC) claimed their season-best fourth victory in a row after a sweep of West Virginia Wesleyan College (1-22, 1-11 MEC) on Sunday afternoon. In game one,
Nick Petrolla played hero and tallied NDC's third walk-off of the season with a sacrifice fly to right field allowing
Nick Farrell to score the game winning run, 7-6. In game two, Notre Dame generated a season-high 15 runs to ensure the sweep during a high scoring affair, 15-8. The wins move NDC to 8-2 in their last ten conference games, lifting the Notre Dame to only one game out of first place in the MEC North Division, an excellent stretch for head coach
Len Barker and the Falcons.
Notre Dame jumped onto the scoreboard first during the bottom of the second inning with a pair of runs. A Petrolla triple into right center allowed
Tyler Shadle to pick up one of his career-high three RBI's in game one with a sacrifice fly to center field (1-0).
Michael Zeuli and
Shane Mittleman kept the momentum rolling by reaching via single and a walk, respectively.
Aaron Miller converted in the clutch with a two-out single to right field, allowing NDC to double their advantage to 2-0.
The Bobcats answered the bell during the very next inning when WVWC's Martin Radosevic deposited a three-run homer over the right center field wall, changing the lead to 3-2.
The Falcons scored a pair of runs for the second inning in a row during the bottom of the third inning, reclaiming the lead 4-3.
Ben Ross reached base after a walk and later came around to score after Petrolla singled and the Bobcats second baseman committed an error (3-3). Shadle reached base on a fielder's choice during the next at-bat, but got the job done by plating
Kyle Espineli and regaining the lead, 4-3.
Shadle notched his career mark during the bottom of the fifth inning with another sacrifice fly, this time to left field, allowing
Hayden Parker to score (5-3). Parker pinch ran for Espineli who drew a walk to lead off the home half of the inning.
WV Wesleyan scored a run in the sixth and seventh innings to tie the contest at 5-5. The Bobcats' Sam Ingram poked a sacrifice fly to right field allowing the tying run to score and force extra innings.
In the top of the eighth inning, WV Wesleyan's Radosevic led off the inning and hit his second home run of the game, this time a towering drive to right field and all of the sudden the Bobcats had taken the lead, 6-5.
During the bottom of the eighth inning, with their backs against the wall, NDC played inspired baseball and mounted the comeback to grab the 7-6 win inside Mercy Health Stadium.
Alec Mendoza, N. Farrell and Ross exchanged three straight singles for Notre Dame to load the bases with one away in the frame. A passed ball allowed Mendoza to score and each runner moved 90 feet closer to home. Strategically, the Bobcats intentionally walked
Austin Mora to reload the bases for a potential force out. However, it did not matter as Petrolla spoiled the WVWC upset and pulled NDC to victory with a walk-off sacrifice fly to right field, platting N. Farrell.
On the mound,
Devin Fish got the starting nod and tossed four innings, allowing three runs on four hits, while striking out two and walking one.
Jesse Clark came on in relief and pitched two innings, allowing one run (no earned) on one hit, while also sending down two and walking one. A. Miller entered the contest looking for the save and came away with his first win of the season. Miller also pitched two innings in relief, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits.

The Falcons got the party started early with a six-spot in the home half of the first inning. Mora led off the game by reaching base on a drop third strike, followed by five consecutive hits by Mendoza, Ross, N. Farrell, Petrolla and Espineli (double), and Notre Dame was instantly ahead 5-0. A few batters later, NDC had gone around the order and Mora was at the plate once again. The redshirt senior roped a single to center field to record the Falcons sixth hit and sixth run of the opening inning (6-0).
A resilient WV Wesleyan team answered back in the top of the third inning with a bases clearing three-run double by Devin Johnson (6-3). A pair of singles later in the inning allowed the Bobcats to post five runs during the inning and cut the Falcon lead to 6-5.
In the home half of the third, NDC grabbed a couple runs back in unconventional ways. Mora generated an RBI after he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded (7-5). Mendoza snagged an RBI on a sacrifice fly in foul territory in which WVWC's Johnson caught the ball while toppling into the first row of stands (8-5).
Each side scored a run in the fourth inning, with Notre Dame's was generated by a
Nate Miller RBI groundout (9-6).

Miller, to total his second RBI of game two (10-8). After Mora scored on an error by the catcher (11-8), N. Farrell tallied a run driven in with a single to center field (12-8).
The Falcons added three more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning off a couple of Bobcat miscues. A. Miller's fielder's choice led to an error by the second baseman and NDC's 13
th run of the game. A couple batters later, a wild pitch allowed A. Miller to cross home plate (14-8), followed by Ross earning his team-high third RBI on a sacrifice fly to center field (15-8).
