AVON, Ohio –
Hayden Parker and
Nick Farrell each generate three hits in game one and five total on the day, but Notre Dame (20-22, 14-10 MEC) fell twice to Wheeling (16-24, 12-12 MEC), 11-9 in game one and 9-5 in the series finale. However notably, Parker tied his career-high (which he set yesterday) with the aforementioned three hit game, as N. Farrell tallied the 200
th career hit on his final base knock of the afternoon. In addition, N. Farrell is one of only two NDC Falcons to eclipse the 200 hit mark in a career, joining Danny Beaver who slugged 212 from 2014-17.
In game one, Wheeling jumped on the scoreboard first with a run in the first inning, three runs in the second and four runs in the third to immediately lead 8-0.
In the home half of the third, N. Farrell put NDC on the board with an RBI single, scoring Parker who singled to start the frame (8-1).
In the fifth, WU added to their advantage with three more runs, moving in front 11-1.
Notre Dame responded during the bottom of the inning with a five spot. A pair of Cardinal errors and an RBI walk from
Michael Zeuli changed the score to 11-4. Next, Parker continued to swing a hot bat as he drove in a pair of Falcons to cut the deficit to 11-6.
The Falcons added another run in the sixth inning off a
Tyler Shadle single and a Cardinal error. NDC posted a last-ditch effort during the bottom of the seventh inning but came up just shy, 11-9 in the end.
Ben Ross and N. Farrell drove in the runs during the home half of the seventh on a sacrifice fly and double, respectively.
In game two, the teams traded runs during the first inning, with NDC's coming via Cardinal error off the bat of
Nick Petrolla.
In the second inning, Wheeling continued the scoring with four runs, three of which came on a bases clearing double (5-1).
Nate Miller earned the start at catcher in game two and generated an RBI via groundout during the bottom of the second (5-2).
WU piled on four more runs during the third inning to move ahead by a score of 9-2.
Notre Dame's offense continued to fight until the very end as the Falcons posted one run in each of the next three innings. Parker drove home N. Farrell in the third to claim NDC's third run of the game. Next,
Alec Mendoza singled up the middle to plate N. Miller (9-4). Lastly,
Shane Mittleman scored
Austin Mora on a sacrifice fly to left field, concluding the scoring in game two at 9-5.
For the afternoon, on offense, N. Farrell and Parker lead the team with five hits each, while Mendoza tallied three. In addition, it was a career-defining series for Parker who batted 8-for-11 with four RBIs, four runs scored and two doubles in the three games he played. For N. Farrell, it is the 200
th hit of his career as he has now recorded a hit in 18 straight contests. Moreover, Parker led the offense with three runs driven in (career-high with two in game one), followed by N. Farrell and Mittleman with a pair each. Lastly, N. Farrell increased his program leading doubles total to 43 with a pair this afternoon as Parker, Mendoza and Zeuli each roped one.
Notre Dame College will be back in action on Saturday and Sunday Apr. 30-May 1 for a four-game series against the MEC North Division leaders, Frostburg State University. The Falcons will travel to FSU for a pair of doubleheaders slated for 1:00 p.m.
