WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Last Friday, Notre Dame College wrapped up their trip to Winter Haven, Fla. with two games. The Falcons scored seven runs on 13 hits against Millersville University and won 7-4, before falling to East Stroudsburg University by a final score of 9-6.
In the first game, against Millersville, five Falcons posted multi-hit games. Senior
Lexi Rehm, who would end the game with three hits, got the scoring started in the second inning, hitting an RBI single to give NDC a 1-0 lead.
Millersville responded with a two-run homer in the bottom half of the inning, but NDC grabbed the lead in the top of the third and did not give it back. Freshman
Emma Gumont singled to start the inning, she would move to second on a sacrifice bunt and advanced to third when senior
Alexi Maciejowski singled. With runners on second and third, Rehm drove another run in with a base hit and sophomore
McKenzie Anderson singled in two runs. NDC led 4-2.
After Millersville scored a run in the bottom of the third, Gumont doubled to score senior
Daniele Rivera in the fourth inning. The Falcons added on when Rehm led off the fifth inning with a home run and, later in the inning, Rivera doubled to score Anderson from second base.
The Marauders tacked on one run in the bottom of the seventh and had runners on first and third, but NDC held on to win 7-4.
Gumont and Rehm each had three hits, a career-high for Gumont and season-high for Rehm. Anderson posted two hits and a career-high two RBI. Maciejowski and Rivera each had two hits, as well.
Freshman
Allison Weilnau (2-2) pitched a complete game, picking up the win, after allowing three earned runs and striking out a career-high five hitters.
Notre Dame scored in the first inning, against East Stroudsburg. Maciejowski hit a bases-loaded RBI sacrifice fly to put NDC on the board. NDC pitcher,
Chloe Vance, kept East Stroudsburg off the board until the fifth inning. The Warriors would score two runs in the fifth.
In the bottom of the fifth, Anderson singled, sophomore
Katelyn DeWeese walked and Rivera moved them both over with a sac bunt. After a fielder's choice, junior
Emily Marsh singled to load the bases and Maciejowski took a pitch deep for a grand slam. She had a career-high five RBI in the game.
The Falcons were leading 5-2 after five innings, but East Stroudsburg started their comeback. The Warriors added one run in the sixth inning and then put six on the board in the seventh inning. The big hit in the inning was a three-run home run to take a 6-5 lead, but ESU needed a few runs of insurance and they got it.
NDC would plate one more run in the bottom of the seventh, but fell 9-6.
Marsh had a season-high three hits and sophomore
Ellen Wheatland finished with a season-high two hits.
After a week in Florida, Notre Dame ended trip with a record of 4-4.
The Falcons will host Tiffin University on March 16. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 3 p.m.
