EDINBORO, PA. – Starting their 2022-23 campaign, the Notre Dame College women's basketball team (0-1) traveled to the Conference Challenge on Friday evening, where the Falcons fell 92-72 to Edinboro University (1-0). Redshirt sophomore
Alana Ellis recorded a career-high with seven steals in the match.
After Ellis netted the first points of the season for NDC (2-0), Edinboro quickly went on an 8-0 run, moving ahead 8-2. The Fighting Scots controlled the remainder of the period, leading 27-14 after the first 10 minutes.
EU increased their lead to as many as 18 (37-19) in the second quarter, but NDC was determined to claw their way back into the contest. The Falcons pulled the game to within seven points (45-38) following a pair of Ellis free throws with 21 seconds until the half. Edinboro netted a three-pointer before the half, to hold a 48-38 lead at the break. The Falcons claimed the frame 24-21.
In the second half, the Fighting Scots put together a solid third quarter, 23-13, to lead 71-51 heading into the fourth.
Notre Dame battled during the final quarter of play by drawing even 21-21, before Edinboro won 92-72.
The Falcons were led on offense by sophomore
Lilee Carlson's team-high 21 points, along with Elli's 17.
Marina Adachi, Ali-Shakir and
Noel Weathers each added eight points to the total.
Junior
Lizzie Imrie dished out a team-high four assists in the game.
On the glass, Weathers (6), Carlson (5) and Imrie (5) were the leaders in rebounds for NDC.
As aforementioned, Ellis grabbed a game-high and career-high seven steals.
As a team, NDC shot 39.3% (22-56) from the field, 38.5% (5-13) from three and 82.1% (23-28) from the line.
The Notre Dame College women's basketball team will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m. to continue the Conference Challenge against Gannon University.
