Women's soccer falls in MEC Quarterfinals after late-goal

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Squaring up against Fairmont State University (11-3-4, 10-3-3 MEC) for the second straight postseason, the Notre Dame College women's soccer team (7-8-4, 6-6-4 MEC) fell 1-0 on a low-scoring Tuesday evening.

In the first half, senior Jordan Pasalaqua recorded three saves to hold the score at 0-0 into the break. NDC posted just one shot in the frame during the 20th minute, when sophomore Louisa Follert sent a ball out high.

Junior Kalie Blaising tallied the Falcons only shot on goal, during the 58th minute as FSU outshot NDC 16-2 in the contest.

Fairmont State netted the game-winning goal in the 84th minute by Kiera Kuzinski, who leads the MEC in goals scored this season.

Pasalaqua paced the match with a game-high five saves.

Despite the loss, the Falcons put together a successful 2022 campaign under 20th year head coach Mike Shiels. NDC generated a three-match unbeaten streak at the end of the season to make the MEC Tournament for the 10th year in a row, including every year since joining the Mountain East Conference. In addition, Notre Dame College boasted three All-MEC awarded winners in freshman Hannah Smith and seniors Madison Luckett and Jordan Pasalaqua.

The Notre Dame College women's soccer team will close the book on their 2022 campaign, as the Falcons will be back in action come August of 2023.
