SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame College women's soccer team (3-4-3, 2-3-3 MEC) earned a draw with Davis & Elkins College (5-4-1, 4-4-1 MEC) on Wednesday afternoon. After the Falcons scored in the first half, the Senators answer with a goal of their own in the second, to ensure a 1-1 tie.
In the ninth minute, senior
Hannah Smith sent the first shot of the match on goal, but the D&E keeper made the save.
Freshman
Maridza Desir took matters into her own hands during the 18
th minute with her second career goal. Desir dribbled up right side of the field, and from just outside of the box on the right sideline, the Montverde Academy product launched a shot into the top left corner, just above the outstretched arms of the Senator keeper (1-0 NDC). It is worth noting that both of Desir's goals have come from distance this season, as she grabbed NDC a 1-0 victory at Fairmont State on Sept. 11 after her 53
rd minute shot from 40-yards out found the back of the net.
Senior goalkeeper
Jordan Pasalaqua logged five of her season-high eight saves during the first half of the match. The Madison, Ohio native answered the call in the 15
th, 19
th, 28
th, 35
th and 38
th minutes, to give Notre Dame a 1-0 advantage heading into the break. Pasalaqua has been on fire as of late, as she has tied or set a new season-high in saves each of the last three contests.
Davis & Elkins ramped up their offensive intensity during the second stanza, by recording eight shots in the half. Within the first minute of the second half, D&E forced Pasalaqua into her sixth save of the match.
In response, Desir put a couple more shots on goal in the 50
th and 57
th minutes, as the Montreal, Canada native paced the Falcons offense with three shots on target.
In the 71
st minute, the Senators tied the contest at 1-1, following a broken play and a quality finish by Nao Kawasaki. The score would remain at 1-1- for the remainder of the contest.
Davis & Elkins outshot Notre Dame on the day with 14 shots, including nine on goal. NDC posted eight shots, including six on target, to go with seven corners and eight team saves.
