Women's soccer drops hard fought season opener on the road

EDINBORO, P.a. – Notre Dame College women's soccer saw their first action of the 2021 season on the road against the Fighting Scots. NDC would fall in a hard fought and tight matchup, 1-0.
 
NDC started the action in the game with a sixth minute shot by Kayla Saikaly which needed to be saved by the Edinboro keeper, Anna Voelker. The Fighting Scots would rattle off several opportunities in response to the early Falcon pressure.
 
Substitute Morgan Wissner for Ediboro broke the stalemate with a 27th minute goal, which would go on to be the game winner.
 
In total NDC turned out five shots, including four on goal that required saving. Mia Alvarez (2), Sammy Salatino (1), Louisa Follert (1) and the aforementioned Saikaly (1) are the four Falcons to record shots on the day.
 
Jordan Pasalaqua gave it her all with a valiant effort between the pipes. She was required to make nine saves today, converting on eight, to hold the relentless Fighting Scots to a single goal.
 
In total, Edinboro outshot NDC, 13 (9) to 5 (4). NDC won the corner kick battle with three to the Fighting Scots one. In addition, NDC was called for nine fouls including a team issued yellow card in the 89th minute, while Edinboro was cautioned six times. Moreover, the previously mentioned Pasalaqua was on her toes all day with eight saves, as Voelker for Edinboro was called upon four times.
 
Notre Dame is back in action on Wednesday Sept. 15 for their home opener against West Liberty at 4 p.m. on Mueller Field. This game marks the beginning of Mountain East Conference play.
