Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s soccer reaches double-digits in win over Concord

BECKLEY, W.Va. – On Sunday afternoon, six Notre Dame College players scored at least one goal and two finished with hat tricks as the Falcons scored 10 times on 32 shots in a 10-1 road win over Concord University.

The attack on goal by NDC started just two minutes into the contest as sophomore Lukas Hackaa took a shot that was on target, but saved by Concord goalkeeper Kyle Brown.

Junior Ned Dry scored the first of his three goals in the 11th minute of action. Concord responded to tie the game just seven minutes later when Ezequiel Villarrel sent the ball just below the crossbar and into the back of the net for Concord.

Notre Dame went back to work as senior Javier Mate scored off a pass from Dry and then Hackaa put one through on the left side, with an assist credited to freshman Carlos Almeida. Less than 25 minutes into the contest, NDC held a 3-1 advantage.

Sophomore Marcus Vinicius Pereira, in his first game of the season, scored his first goal of the campaign about five minutes before the end of the half to give Notre Dame a 4-1 lead. The Falcons had 15 shots to Concord's three after 45 minutes of play.

Less than 10 minutes into the second half, freshman Ailton Fagner Silva contributed with his first goal of the game, in the 52nd minute, with an assist from freshman Taylor Dyson. Four minutes later, Silva scored a second time, with help from Almeida and Dry.

Leading 6-1, it was Dry's turn to score back-to-back goals. NDC was peppering the Concord defense with shots in the 59th minute and within a few seconds, Almeida took a shot that was saved and senior Kane Bartholomew tried his luck but his shot was saved. Then, Dry took advantage of an open opportunity and found the net. He would score again, with a Bartholomew assist, 61st minute.

Dry finished with career-highs in goals (3), assists (2) and points (8). His eight points are tied for fourth most in a game in Mountain East Conference (MEC) history and in NDC program history.

Villarel was called for a foul in the box and Silva scored for a third time in the second half, on a penalty kick. Sophomore Antonio Bittencourt, also in his first action of the season, got in on the goal scoring in the 72nd minute to pull the Falcons ahead 10-1.

"The team showed a lot of imagination in their attacks combined with a great work-rate today," head coach Carl Nolan said. "We are a very young team that is always learning and evolving, so to rotate as much as we did today was really beneficial to the group."

Sunday's game represents the first time breaking the double-digit goal mark in the program's Division II era and it is the most goals scored in a game since the program defeated Penn State Beaver by a score of 13-1 on Oct. 5, 2011.

NDC's 10 goals ranks fourth in MEC history for a single game. All of Notre Dame's goals came off shots taken in the box.

The Falcons took 17 shots in the second half and totaled 32 for the game. That is the highest amount taken by the program since their 34-shot performance on Oct. 18, 2018 in a game against Shepherd University. They took 25 shots on goal, which is the most NDC has totaled since the 2011 win over Penn State Beaver, when the Falcons took 33 shots on goal.

Notre Dame will come home to play Wheeling University on Sept. 22. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
