Baseball Finishes Regular Season with Split Against AB

GLENVILLE, W.VA. — Notre Dame Baseball splits the final regular season series with Alderson Broaddus University.

Eighteen runs were scored between the two teams in the first game on Sunday, with the Falcons taking the win, but the split sends Alderson Broaddus to the MEC Tournament.

The Falcons struck first for two runs in the top of the first on a double by Nick Farrell and a single by Jake Fonderlin. Matt Richards singled to left scoring the third run of the game in the third. In the fifth inning, the Falcons put five runs up by a single and two doubles hit by Shane Mittleman and Richards and Aaron Miller respectively. They added another in the sixth inning, and two more in the seventh.

Brady Biglin improved ta 3-1 on the year with three strikeouts in five innings of work, and Kevin Guzik earned a save with two innings of work and added a strikeout.

The second game of the day was a 7-5 loss that was pitched by committee. Ashton Spurgeon started the game and pitched two innings, followed by Devin Fish, Cameron Kern, and J.J. Espy all getting time on the mound in relief. The staff combined for five strikeouts.

Offensively, Shane Mittleman finished going 2-4 at the plate in the second game with a double. Ben Ross hit a home run and drove in three runs in the season finale.

Falcon baseball finishes the season with an overall record of 17-23 and an MEC record of 14-18.
