Football Scores 69 in Third Win of 2021

PHILLIPI, W.VA.— The Notre Dame College Football team improved to 3-0 with a 69-10 victory over Alderson Broaddus University (0-3) on Saturday night.

The Falcons put a complete game together on both sides of the ball, with the defense holding the Battlers to under 200 yards of offensive production, while the Falcon offense earned 214 yards through the air and 252 yards on the ground for a total of 466 offensive yards.

Junior quarterback Chris Brimm struck first, leading the offense a nine-play drive that started at the opponent's 48-yard line and ended when he scored on a two-yard rush into the end zone. Alderson Broaddus tied the game at the 6:33 mark when they ran for a 65-yard touchdown, but the special teams defense was able to get back up on top with a touchdown return after blocking a punt and recovering the football. The scoring in the first quarter ended with Tabyus Taylor's first 44-yard scoring run of the night, making the score 21-7 with three minutes and fifty-one seconds left in the first quarter.

The Falcons offense took the field to start the second quarter at the opponent's 32-yard line on fourth and five when Chris Brimm connected with Devanaire Conliffe for a 32-yard touchdown reception (28-7). At the 2:30 mark, Jeremy Hamilton caught a 13-yard touchdown pass (35-7). Eleven seconds later, junior linebacker Nate Moore picked off and returned the first pass of the following ABU drive for a touchdown, giving the Falcons a 42-7 advantage as the teams went into the locker rooms at the half.

Tabyus Taylor started the second half off with a 95-yard touchdown run (52-7), and Markus Hood caught a 13-yard touchdown pass at the 13:39 mark to go up 59-7. At the 10:43 mark, Taylor struck again with his second 44-yard touchdown run to go up 66-7. Tanner Harding scored the last points for the Falcons when he made a 29-yard field goal attempt with ten seconds left in the third quarter.

Harding finished with his second perfect night of kicking in 2021, going 9-9 on PATs and one good field goal attempt. Chris Brimm completed 14 out of his 21 passes, and threw for 206 yards with two touchdowns and rushed one touchdown in himself.  Tabyus Taylor churned out 175 yards on 18 carries with two touchdowns, and averaged 9.7 yards per carry in the win.

"It was a good win", said quarterback and captain Chris Brimm. "Our offensive line did a good job up front, and our receivers did their thing catching and blocking on the outside. But our defense was lights out today. We had a couple of mishaps, but overall it was a great team win."

The defense was indeed lights out tonight, with 14 Falcons finishing with more than one tackle in the effort. Saivon Davis asserted two sacks for a loss of fifteen yards, and finished with four tackles. Junior linebacker Nate Moore finished with six tackles, two of which combined for a loss of five yards, and one sack in addition to his pick six.

"This is the first time we've played them", said Moore. "Obviously we didn't know much about them heading into this game but I think our defense played cohesively. With all the games getting canceled this week due to COVID, it was great to get out there and play today and we're excited to head to Wheeling next week."

The Falcons' final home game this season was moved to a road game in the COVID-19 scheduling changes this week, so the Falcons will head to Wheeling for the final game of the 2021 regular season. Kickoff time for that game has yet to be announced.
