WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – In two low scoring games on Saturday, Notre Dame College split a double-header against West Liberty University, winning the first game by a score of 2-0 before falling in game two, 4-1.
In game one, senior
Taylor Olson had another solid performance in the pitcher's circle. Olson picked up the win as she went seven scoreless innings for her second consecutive complete game shutout.
The NDC offense put the first run on the board in the top of the fourth inning. Junior
Alexi Maciejowski walked to start the inning and two batters later, senior
McKenzie Zigmont singled up the middle. With runners on first and second base, sophomore
Emily Marsh hit an RBI single to center field to give NDC a 1-0 lead.
West Liberty had runners on first and second base in the fifth inning, but could not score. NDC then put an insurance run on the board in the sixth inning. A walk, sacrifice bunt, walk and a single loaded the bases for the Falcons. Junior
Lexi Rehm then scored the second run of the game on a passed ball.
West Liberty was held to just three hits in the contest. For NDC, junior
Daniele Rivera went 1-for-3 with a double.
The Hilltoppers put two runs on the board in the third inning of game two, with an RBI double by Kat Donzella and RBI single by Katie Beeman. They added a run in the fourth and the sixth inning to take a 4-0 advantage.
With one out in the seventh inning, senior
Katelyn Rheude walked, Rivera singled and Maciejowski doubled to bring in a run for the Falcons.
NDC returns home tomorrow for a double-header with Wheeling University. The first game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
